Why Build a Second Water Treatment Plant? Future Tarn WTP Refurbishment: o Allows existing Tarn WTP to be taken off-line for refurbishment o Some Tarn WTP components date to 1970 s and are at risk of failure o Major improvements necessary for Tarn WTP to continue to be viable Additional Water Source for Town: o Provides a second source of potable water for flexibility in case of wildfire Increased Water Supply: o Provides additional supply for future build-out of Town o Provides potential for adding customers in the valley at Council discretion

Breckenridge 2 nd WTP Project Components Water Treatment Plant - new 3 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) conventional drinking water treatment plant (expandable to 4.5 MGD in future) o Finished Water Pump Station - at the Water Treatment Plant site Pumps treated water into Town s distribution system Connects to existing piping in the Highlands o Residuals Building - to manage both the process waste streams from new plant and solids from the Tarn WTP o Administration Building control room, laboratory and operator training

Breckenridge 2 nd WTP Project Components Raw Water Intake & Pump Station - on east bank of the Blue River, north of Swan Mountain Road Raw Water Pipeline - from the Raw Water Pump Station to the Water Treatment Plant Finished Water Pipeline from the Water Treatment Plant to Highlands Drive

Breckenridge 2 nd WTP Project Fun Facts We will install 23,600 linear feet, or 4.5 miles, of main line pipe >>>>>>>> That is the equivalent of running 18 times around a 400 meter track New water treatment plant will have the ability to treat 3 million gallons of drinking water per day >>>>>>> That is the equivalent of filling 4.5 Olympic swimming pools in one day We will pour approximately 5,500 cubic yards of concrete >>>>>>> The equivalent weight of 1,656 African elephants We will move approximately 13,000 cubic yards of dirt at the water treatment plant site >>>>>>>>> That is approximately 1,444 dump truck loads We will pump water from the Blue River to the North Storage Tank, an elevation gain of 800 >>>>>>> That is 100-feet taller than the Wells Fargo Center Cash Register building in Denver A 3-foot diameter x 350-foot long casing pipe will be hand tunneled under Hwy. 9 >>>>>> A person will dig at the front of the casing while the entire casing is advanced by a jacking mechanism The Town of Breckenridge has some of the oldest water rights in the State, which date back to 1885

Breckenridge 2 nd WTP Project Schedule 2018: o Water Treatment Plant. April - December o Raw Water Pump Station & Intake Structure... September - December o Raw Water Pipeline Gateway Drive south to WTP. April - June Gateway Drive north to RWPS.. June - July o Finished Water Pipeline Bore at Highway 9 June - August 2019: o Water Treatment Plant. January - December o Raw Water Pump Station... April - December o Raw Water Pipeline Blue River Crossing south of Gateway Drive.. March - April o Finished Water Pipeline Highway 9 to Highlands Drive... May - September 2020: o Water Treatment Plant. January - August o Raw Water Pump Station... January - March Second Water Plant is targeted to be operational by Q3 of 2020
