Goals of FNCA To achieve socio-economic development by safe utilization of nuclear technology To utilize nuclear technology in those fields where it has a distinct advantage To respond to the needs of the FNCA

12 Progress of FNCA Projects Application of Electron Accelerator Development of low energy, low cost, self-shielded, shielded, easily- operated electron beam irradiation system for liquid, film, particulates and gases. 14 Progress of FNCA Projects Safety Culture of Research Reactor Peer Review for Research Reactors Objectives: To foster safety culture in research reactors by identifying good practices and areas for further improvement. To learn each other as equal partners through peer review process. Process: Member countries conduct selfassessment for their own research reactor(s) along the review items. Dalat Reactor Member countries visit a specific plant Review Team and conduct peer review, in conjunction with the project workshop. Interview / Discussion with plant personnel, Confirmation through documents, drawings, etc. The first peer review took place at the Dalat Nuclear Research Institute in Vietnam in Jan. 003.

20 Development of Nuclear Training Materials Common training material on Radiation Protection produced by Japan jointly with Indonesia,Thailand and Vietnam,for the Joint Training Courses will be uploaded at HRD Project Website for review and comments by HRD PLs. Joint production of e-learning material for nuclear training is explored. Radiation safety second edition (393 pages,written in English)was distributed to each country by Malaysia Exercises in Reactor Physics (9 pages,written in English) recently published in Japan was distributed to member countries upon requests. E-learning systems in training high school students in the area of nuclear science and technology by the Philippines is being developed.

21 Information Dissemination by HRD website International and domestic training courses in each country will be updated and the courses in FY003 will be informed in the website.

22 National Survey of the Basic Data on HRD(00-004) The Survey of the Basic Data on HRD in each country to be used in the formulation of the HRD strategy is under operation.
