1 Bid Document Amendment Reference Number: KGN-BDD _Addendum 5 Tender for EPC+F of Modular Geothermal Power Plants at Olkaria The following should be amended on the Bid Document; Insert the following at the end of Section VI; Appendix C (pg 96): Appendix D: Environmental Management Plan Bidder are required to comply with the requirement of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) at all times during construction activities. 2 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN (EMP) FOR THE PROPOSED MODULAR GEOTHERMAL POWER PLANTS PROJECT TO BE LOCATED AT OLKARIA GEOTHERMAL FIELD, NAIVASHA SUB-COUNTY Prepared by: Cornelius Ndetei Philip J. Barasa & Principal Environmental Scientist Environmental Officer January,

3 Project Objective: Design, procure (manufacture), supply, install and commission modular geothermal power plants including all related infrastructure and services, to be located at OW-733 and OW-R5 sites within Olkaria. The wells earmarked for the modular geothermal power plants include: OW-733, OW-733A, OW-733B, OW-732B and OW-734B and OW-40A, OW-40V, OW-50A and OW-50B. ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR THE PROPOSED MODULAR GEOTHERMAL POWER PLANTS PROJECT AT OLKARIA GEOTHERMAL FIELD, NAIVASHA SUB-COUNTY Environmental/Social Potential Impacts Proposed Mitigation Aspect Measures (A) Construction Phase Time Frame Responsibility Hiring of casual labour -Conflicts with local community leading to suspension of construction activities -Recruitment of all unskilled labour to be done through the Stakeholders Coordination Committee. -Main Contractor Noise emission Environmental/Social Aspect -Interference with animal bahaviour -Public nuisance -Provision of ear muffs to workers exposed to noise levels above 85dB(A) -Adverse human health -The noise level from each equipment shall be less than 85 db(a) at 1m distance as specified in the tender document -Use of appropriate sound proof materials in areas where workers are likely to stay for eight or more hours. 6 -Provision of fire fighting equipment at strategic positions -Training of fire marshals -Maintain on site appropriate spill response kits including sausage booms and metallic containers -Designated storage areas for hazardous/flammable materials should be made of an impervious floor -Maintain at the point of use, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) Waste disposal -Contamination of soil -Contamination of water resources -Aesthetic degradation -Provision of suitable containers for temporary accumulation of solid waste -Segregation of solid waste from the source -Contractor -Potential for injuries -Hazardous solid waste shall be disposed of via NEMA licensed hazardous waste handlers -All domestic non-hazardous waste shall be disposed at KenGen s designated sites -Maintenance of an inventory of all the waste categories 6

7 generated and their final disposal as approved by KenGen -Provision of suitable workers sanitary facilities -Encourage reuse and recycling of materials Health & Safety Aspects -Injuries to workers or visitors -Penalties as a result of non compliance -Adverse health impacts -Loss of life -Standard Operating Procedures including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and method statements for critical activities shall be documented and approved by KenGens Quality & Safety Engineer -Use of permit to work system for risky undertakings -Prior to and throughout -Main Contractor -Provision & enforcement of the use of personal protective equipment -Registration of the workplace with Directorate of Occupational Health & Safety Services (DOHSS) -Establishment of Occupational Health & Safety Committee -Regular OSH committee meetings 7

8 -Installation of appropriate safety signs -Daily tool box meetings -Mandatory safety briefings & induction of new staff & visitors -Documentation of accidents and incidents -Maintain a standard first aid kit on site -Undertake mandatory OSH trainings e.g first aid and fire marshall training -Close supervision of workforce to ensure proper workmanship -Appointment of a qualified environment & safety personnel for the project -Conduct planned and impromptu inspections to identify gaps & recommend mitigation measures -Provide an emergency vehicle on site at all times 8
