Confidential CONFIDENTIAL DSM Strategy Sustainability one of DSM s strategic growth pillars DSM secures strong foundations of sustainable, energy efficient, and safe operations. DSM strives for profitable, credible and measurably high sustainability performance in its innovation pipeline and product portfolio: Brighter Living Solutions, combining Eco+ and People+ Brighter Living Solutions Eco+ People+ Three Sustainable Growth Platforms create the right market context for our sustainable solutions to flourish. 13 Examples of Brighter Living Solutions
Confidential CONFIDENTIAL DSMs Stakeholders Increased need for: Transparency Measurability Credibility Social responsibility
Confidential CONFIDENTIAL Brighter Living Solutions Innovations and products that are better for the planet (Eco+) and people (People+) based on a product life cycle approach Brighter Living Solutions Eco+: Profitable solutions with measurably better environmental impact than the mainstream reference solution. People+: Profitable solutions with a measurably better impact on lives of people than the mainstream reference solution.
Niaga sustainable carpet technology Societal challenge Waste reduction and recycling are main focus areas to reduce environmental impact and the need for resources. Carpets typically consist of many different components, which makes it hard to recycle them. DSM solution Carpets with Niaga technology are designed in such a way that all materials can be fully recycled, again and again. People+ & Eco+ Impact on environment: The Niaga carpet technology reduces the energy consumption in production by 95%. The carpet s recyclability is close to 100%. Impact on lives of people: Niaga carpets are intrinsically flame retardant, avoiding the addition of flame retardants which can be associated with health risks. More information:
Niaga Technology First application: carpet Carpet made with latex Carpet with Niaga technology Many Materials Face fibers (PA6, PP, Wool or PET) Primary Backing (PP) Latex Coating + fillers Separate Underpad (PU, PVC, Bitumen) Mono or Duo Material Face fibers (PA6, PP, Wool or PET) PET Primary Backing Niaga Engineered Polyester Adhesive PET Integrated Underpad Page 5

Decovery Societal challenge Concern about possible health risks of solvent-based paints for user and producer. DSM solution Decovery plant-based resins serve as sustainable building blocks for waterborne paints and coatings. People+ & Eco+ Impact on the lives of people: Paints with Decovery have low levels of odor and are associated with an improved air quality. Impact on the environment: Removal of solvent and VOC emissions and plant based origins reduce environmental impact. More information:

Pack-Age Societal challenge With an increasing population, pressure on resource efficient food production is growing. DSM solution Pack-Age, a cheese ripening solution, allows cheese producers to tackle waste, cost and environmental impact by avoiding the need to discard cheese. Eco+ Compared to conventionally coated and ripened cheese, our customers see yield improvements of up to 10% through a combination of reduced moisture loss, lower wastage and reduced milk use. And as Pack-Age is clean label, no further ingredients are needed to preserve the cheese from mold during ripening. More information:
Anti-reflective solar glass coating technology Societal challenge Fossil fuels have a negative impact on climate. Therefore, solar power is a prime source of future energy provision. DSM solution DSM develops material concepts that increase the efficiency of solar modules, bringing down the cost of solar energy and helping to accelerate the penetration of it. One of our solutions is the leading anti-reflective (AR) coating that minimizes reflection of light, boosting the cost/performance ratio of solar panels: Same sun, More power. Eco+ DSM s AR coating enables a power gain of up to 4% over uncoated modules. Due to its smooth closed surface, it is easy to clean and it has outstanding durability. More information:
Dyneema : Synthetic Link Chains Societal challenge Good ergonomics, zero injuries, less low back disorder and less noise are important issues in industries where steel chains are used for heavy load securing and overhead lifting. DSM solution Light weight super strong synthetic link chains with Dyneema fiber replace steel chains. People + & Eco+ Impact on the lives of people: Reduces the possibility of injuries and low back disorder and improves the ergonomic performance because it is 8 times lighter than equal strength steel chain. It makes less noise, is saver and 3 times faster to handle. Impact on the environment: More than 80% weight and energy saved. More information:
Trevo Nets China Off-shore Fish Farming Societal challenge Impact on ecosystems and coastline pollution are caused by intensive aquaculture in China. Antibiotics used in some forms of aquaculture can lead to risks for human health. DSM solution Trevo Fibers used in offshore aqua farming nets are highly durable and strong, which provide an alternative to more impactful inshore aquaculture. People+ & Eco+ Impact on the lives of people: No antibiotics needed. Safe and healthy fish protein for human nutrition. Impact on the environment: Preservation of coastlines. Reduced CO 2 emissions. More information:
CleanCow Societal challenge Livestock are responsible for methane emission, a GHG that causes global warming. DSM solution CleanCow, a feed additive solution under development for reducing the environmental impact of milk and beef production and with the potential to improve performance, like increased milk yield, increased body weight gain or better feed efficiency. Eco+ Reduces methane emissions by min % in vivo. More information:
FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY Confidential Livestock Sector responsible for 14.5% of human-induced GHG Emissions (Gerber et al 2013 FAO; Herrero et al 2016) Global significance of livestock sector's emissions (source: Gerber et al 2013; FAO: LCA analysis includes feed production, animal rearing, food processing and transport. Global estimates of emissions by species. Livestock accounts for Gt of CO 2 e yr -1 Enteric Methane Formation - accounts for 40% of these emissions ( Gt CO 2 e yr -1 ) Beef and Dairy are the major contributors of the emissions. Context for the sustainability/ GHG emission storyline of a CleanCow product.
FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY Confidential Project CleanCow ANH Reduce methane emissions from ruminants (enteric fermentation) by ~ 30%. Increased animal performance (milk yield, weight gain, or feed efficiency) as additional benefits. Consistent efficacy in live animals International collaboration partner Methane is produced by microorganisms in the cattle. CleanCow compound (PDMN) specifically inhibits the methane formation inside these microogranisms. Methanogens CleanCow compound PDMN Inhibitor
FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY Confidential 3-NOP gets degraded by its Mode of Action Publication Mode of action in PNAS, May 2nd DSM docked into the active site of Methyl-CoM- Reductase. (R. Stemmler (DNP) This manuscript explains: the high specificity of the compound (most specific methane inhibitor known) highlights briefly its development provides a rational on a molecular level for the observed effect in ruminants NOP gets destroyed by its own mode of action.

Confidential CONFIDENTIAL Summary Sustainability is one of DSM s strategic growth pillars Our Bright Science forms the basis of Brighter Living Solutions, which are products and solutions with a better impact on planet (Eco+) or people (People+) than mainstream reference solutions. Drivers for DSM to make a measurably better impact on people and planet are resources, land use, water, energy, emissions, health, comfort, working conditions and community development Sustainable Growth Platforms Climate Change, Circular Economy and Nutrition Security create the right market context in which DSMs solutions can create a positive social impact and profitable business. We need public and private partners to address the global issues we face and that, frankly speaking, no single company can solve.
