ESCO is an Energy Services Company An ESCO designs, develops and implements the project Investment needed for the project is arranged by the ESCO from its own funds or through loans ESCO shall get back their investment through the energy savings achieved All the project implementation risks involved are assumed by the ESCO Monetary benefits achieved from energy savings shall be shared with the DISCOMs/Municipalities No financial burden on DISCOMs/Municipalities

9 Street Lighting Street Lights at Vishakahapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) were destroyed after the recent Hud-Hud cyclone. The damaged streetlights were proposed by Government of Andhra Pradesh to be replaced with energy efficient LED streetlights. EESL replaced approx. 90,000 nos. of conventional streetlights with LED streetlights on ESCO mode. The replacement was completed in 2 months citing the security concerns in the city since the lights were damaged. Approx. Investment = 10 Million Approx. Energy Savings = 21 Million kwh per annum Project Duration = 7 years

23 BUILDINGS Status in India Government, public and private sector buildings of commercial use such as hospitals, hotels, offices, shopping malls, airports, schools etc. qualify as commercial buildings. In commercial buildings, the annual energy consumption per square meter of the floor area is in excess of 200 kwh with air-conditioning and lighting serving as the two most energy consuming end use applications. Electricity consumption in the building sector in India is 7% of the country s total electricity consumption. Of the building sector, commercial building sector accounts for 33%.
