13 Iraq s Strategy to Develop Gas Sector and Utilize Gas Reserves Adopting a multi-track strategy to develop gas sector and leverage the key elements that drive the country to emerge as a gas producer and exporter. Establish Joint Ventures with reputable international gas companies. Build gas gathering and processing facilities within the scope of work of oil fields License contracts. Signing License contracts for gas fields.
14 National Efforts to utilize gas from un-contracted fields. Complete pan-country gas infrastructure to meet domestic demand. Draw projects for future gas export. Expand gas infrastructure for export. Exploration for more gas.
15 The Gas Joint Venture Model A joint venture between an Iraqi state-owned gas company and a sound gas international firm(s) on balanced and transparent terms is the best option to develop the gas sector in Iraq and upgrade it to world- class gas industry taking into consideration the huge volume of gas produced, magnitude of investment required, need for technology deployment and development of national human resources.

17 Conclusions Iraq s gas reserves present the country to be one of the main gas producers and exporters in the world. The country s gas production is on the way to multiply five folds to reach more than 70 BCM a year within the next seven years. A multi-track strategy is a key solution for Iraq to face up the numerous challenges encompassing its gas reserves utilization. Iraq needs equitable partnerships with experienced international gas industry players to develop its vast gas resources and build its gas sector into a world-class industry. Exploration for more gas is required to compensate Exploration for more gas is required to compensate for depletion with special focus for non-associated gas finds.
