3 What are the Benefits? Solar Panels, Ketchum Minimal increased up-front costs can be recovered by return on investment: - decreased energy bills - decreased water bills - increased durability & decreased maintenance - better owner knowledge of systems. Integrated design lowers ongoing operating costs. New technologies enhance health and well being. Healthier buildings can reduce builder s liability. Tenants costs can be significantly reduced. Many financial incentive programs are available: - Federal tax credits for renewable energy, homes that use 50% less energy than 2003 code, energy efficient windows & appliances - State tax credits & low interest loans - Utility rebate programs Protects our Valley s pristine assets!

8 Types of Construction: NGBS Residential Only Including residential portions of mixed-use Subdivisions New Construction Multi-Unit Buildings Additions Renovations - post 1980 Green Building Path - pre 1980 Green Remodel Path If enacted, projects like Proposed Washington Place Affordable Housing, as well as single family residences, would comply with NGBS.

West Lantern, Ketchum, On target for LEED Gold 2009 IECC adopted Jan. 1, % more energy efficiency than 2006 code 2012 IECC coming % more energy efficiency than 2006 code IGCC v. 2 is done, final version March NGBS being written now Hailey has adopted code, Jan. 1, 2011, voluntary for first year Blaine County hearing to adopted code, May 2011 Many western resort towns already have codes: Aspen, Telluride, Whistler, Taos, Crested Butte entire state of California Proactive vs reactive? The train is leaving the station it s time to get on board.
