5 Health, Safety and the Environment Top priority The health and safety of people and property, as well as environmental considerations, are essential, priority principles in all Geostock s activities, for design, construction and operation. This policy is set forth in our Safety Management System (SMS) which is applied in all units, and which raises awareness at every level. We also perform regular audits and provide comprehensive training for our staff, as well as analysing in detail any HSE incidents. Quality commitment Geostock has been committed to a process of continual service quality improvement for many years and a quality management system has been implemented. Geostock is ISO 9001 certified by the LRQA for engineering and storage operation activities. UGS has been ISO 9001 certified by the TUV for engineering activities. The environment Controlled impact Geostock designs and operates underground storage facilities that meet environmental standards and works in collaboration with the authorities and local populations in every country in which it operates. Because of their reduced land occupacy, underground storage facilities can be well integrated into their surroundings with very little visual impact. In the storage units, products are also naturally protected from contact with the atmosphere meaning that, in the absence of oxygen there is no risk of fire or explosion.
