4 Quality Assurance Inbuilt quality right from bottom most stage of design and manufacturing is the basic motto of CPFE achieved by innovative excellence. The concept of quality manufactured than quality inspected is followed with the team of qualified, quality oriented engineers and work force. Type tests like cycle life, squiirm, yield rupture are conducted on specific requirements by in-house facility. Each product is subjected to strigent internal tests, per full proof quality control methods. Correlation testing carried out on all product for comparative results from design data to final end product and periodical R&D on manufacturing process ensures high provisioned all product manufactured at CPFE. CPFE s in-house CAD based design and drawing documentation stress on high quality designs conforming to EJMA s, ASTM SA, ASME, TEMA, API650, BS, IS, DIN latest edition and relevant International codes and standards. The results are verified at all levels with actual prototype testing such as Movement test, Spring rate test, Squirm test, Burst test, Life cycle test, Pressure test, etc. on various sizes. All Product are subjected to various stringent in-process inspection stages such as control of material, welding procedure, non-destructive testing of weld joints, dimensional inspection, pressure testing, movement, DP, PMI, Spectro Chemical Analysis of metals, Physical / Mechanical Testing, Impact Test, Metallurgical testing other Test TPI test etc.

8 Axial Joints Axial expansion joints are designed to accept movements of extension and compression in the longitudinal direction. When the expansion joint compresses or extends, it causes the whole length to either increase or decrease. If in a piping system, axial expansion joints are designed without restraining bars, the pipeline will require fixed points and proper anchors to overcome the reaction forces generated by the bellows. The length of an expansion joint in a neutral position is called a free length. In order to achieve more cycle life, axial expansion joints should be installed under pre-tense condition also known as cold pull. UNIVERSAL EXPANSION JOINT (TIED/UNTIED) Universal expansion joints consist of two bellows with a central piece of pipe this can be supplied with flanges or pipe ends. These joints are designed to absorb a greater amount of axial and lateral movements compared to a single expansion joint. The longer the central pipe length increases the greater the bellows can absorb lateral deflection GIMBAL EXPANSION JOINT Gimbal expansion joints can absorb angular movements in multiple planes. The benefit of having a gimbal expansion joint is that it absorbs pressure thrust as well as torsional twist. This type of expansion joint consists of 4 hinge restraints that are welded to a flange with one common gimbal pin in the middle. These type of expansion joints are often used in a pair to absorb moments in multiple planes.

9 IN-LINE PRESSURE EXPANSION JOINTS In-line pressure expansion joints are also designed to absorb axial and lateral movements. They are often used on turbines, pumps or compressors. The in-line pressure joint has balancing bellows and line bellows. Balancing bellows are always twice the effective area of in-line bellows and are joined together through a series of tie-rods HINGED EXPANSION JOINT ( Signle/Universal) Single hinged expansion joints consist of one bellow with pipe ends or flanges. This type of expansion joint can only accept angular movements although they are limited to angulate in a single plane. Single hinge expansion joints come with flat hinges and a pin; these absorb pressure loads created by internal pressure, therefore the pipeline does not require strong anchors. If there is large movement in the pipeline due to high pressure, two or more single hinged expansion joints can be installed to accommodate larger movement. PRESSURE BALANCED EXPANSION JOINT Elbow pressure balanced expansion joints are designed to absorb axial and lateral movements. These kind of expansion joints are used where there is limitation for the main anchors. Pressure thrust force acting on the (middle) bellow is equalised by balancing bellows on either end through a set of tie rods. However the overall spring rates will be an addition of spring rates of balancing and universal bellows.

10 RECTANGULAR EXPANSION JOINT CPFE metal expansion joints are designed to absorb movements in all three directions i.e. axial, lateral and angular. The rectangular bellows are mostly designed for very low pressure applications such as ducts, exhaust systems, ventilation systems etc. Non Metallic Bellows highly flexible rubber and fabric connector used on large blower ducts to reduce and isolate vibration and to protect expensive electrical equipment from thermal movements. The multiconvolution construction allows for more than 25 mm of movement in any direction. These parts are carefully hand built by skilled craftsmen and employ the finest materials available for fighting the environment and destructive ozone attack. Resistoflex flexible bellows can alleviate ductwork movement problems in power stations and help ensure operational efficiencies. Bellows do not have any standard dimensions manufactured to customers specific dimensions. Nevertheless the design is aimed for maximum movement to be compensated.
