Europa, ambiente e depurazione: le politiche, l economia e le innovazioni Ready to Market Water challenges and emerging issues in Europe Giuseppina Monacelli, Rimini, 5 November 2015

10 JPIs Since 2008 Coordination of the national / regional public research, development and innovation programmes in Europe A process based on variable geometry A new way to address RDI problems with European dimension

The Water Joint Programming Initiative The discussion around Water JPI started in 2010 Water JPI was officialy adopted by EU Competitiveness Council in December : Chaired by Spain (MINECO) and Co-Chaired by the Netherlands (RVO) Since November 2014, Chaired by France (ANR) and Co-Chaired by Ireland (EPA), with the support of Spain (MINECO) and Italy (ISPRA) In February 2013 Water JPI and WatEUr CSA (Coordination and Support Action of Water JPI) had their official lauch meetings in Madrid. Water JPI responds to the challenge of "delivering sustainable water systems for a sustainable economy in and out of Europe."

Current Water JPI Partners and Observers A group of committed and motivated research managers Water JPI partners currently represent 88 % of the European National Public RDI investment on water.

Main Objectives of Water Joint Programming Initiative and Activites to Realize OBJECTIVES Involving water end-users for effective RDI results uptake. TOOLs Joint Call Management Reaching effective, sustainable coordination of European water RDI. Harmonising National water RDI agendas in Partner Countries. Supporting European leadership in science and technology. Mapping RDI activities (Questionnaire, Interview, Desk Research ) Allignment of Research Agendas (SRIA Document and Implementation Plan) International Cooperation (MoUs, Call Partnerships )

Publication October 2013 Budget of 9 M ( fresh money ) On the topic: Emerging Pollutants Future research on emerging pollutants in water for urban or agricultural purposes should deepen our understanding on the issues such as: What are the new contaminants? How can we predict their environmental behaviour in surface water, sediments, soil and groundwater? Which innovative rapid analysis and detection systems could be developed? What impact do they have on human health (toxicology) and on ecosystems (ecotoxicology)? FRAME, PROMOTE, METAWATER, PERSIST, StARE, TRACE, MOTREM

Call for proposals 2014 Topic related to developing technological solutions and services for water distribution and measurement, waste water treatment and reuse, desalination, floods and droughts, etc. Fulfils pillar 3 Promoting competitiveness in the water industry of our SRIA 17 partners from: BE, CY, DK, EE, ES, IE, IL, IT, MD, NL, NO, PT, RO, SE, TU and ZA. 1st Stage Deadline : 4 May pre-proposals 2nd Stage Deadline : 14 September proposals Budget of 14,95 M

Developing a Strategic Research Agenda SRIA has been conceived «as a collective and shared strategy, fed by national strategies and fitting the objectives of RDI Programme owners ( ). The SRIA is based on shared prioritization. The SRIA is neither the intersection of national SRIAs, nor a brand new document resulting from a bottomup approach. ( )»
