Introducing Group K pre-emergent weed control in canola

A new standard of pre-emergent weed control in canola A new Group K pre-emergent herbicide for use in all canola production systems. Initial registrations for annual ryegrass, wild oats and wireweed. Superior in-furrow weed control compared to commercial standards. Up to 12 weeks residual control (depending on soil moisture and rainfall conditions).

How and when to apply Rates Annual ryegrass L/ha Wild oats & Wireweed 1.8 L/ha Always use robust label rates. Use the higher ARG rate unless conditions are ideal. Method Timing Incorporation By conventional boom sprayer, using a spray volume of L/ha. Ensure complete and even spray coverage of the soil. Poor spray coverage may result from ridged or excessively cloddy soil or over 50% stubble, plant residue or other ground cover. As close as possible to sowing and no more than 3 days earlier. Incorporation by sowing (IBS) using knife points and press wheels.

A new standard of residual control Herbicide Apply prior to sowing for residual pre-emergent weed control IBS Planting Vegetative Bolting Flowering Up to 12 weeks The length of residual control will vary with the application rate, levels of soil moisture and rainfall after sowing.

Better solubility = better mobility is more soluble in water than other products like propyzamide and pyroxasulfone. That extra solubility gives it greater mobility in the soil. The IBS process moves out of the furrow but it readily moves back in to provide superior in-furrow weed control compared to commercial standards.

Stewardship and layering of control IBS PSPE Early post-emergent All canola All canola Trifluralin S-Metolachlor Clopyralid Glyphosate TT canola Atrazine Simazine Terbuthylazine Clearfield canola OnDuty Intervix RR canola Glyphosate All canola Clethodim Haloxyfop Clopyralid TT canola Atrazine Terbuthylazine Follow with in-crop applications of atrazine, glyphosate, clethodim or Intervix. Layering of control reduces escapes and overall weed seed burdens leading into the next season.

Getting the full effect Use full label rates and the higher rate for annual ryegrass when conditions are not ideal or high grass weed pressure is expected. Use adequate spray volumes to get complete and even spray coverage. Sow canola with knife points and press wheels as soon as possible after application. Tank-mix with a knockdown herbicide if any weeds have already emerged pre-sowing. Apply complementary herbicides PSPE or post-emergence as required. Keep rotating modes of action as part of a resistance management program.
