11 Federal Organization Mandates & Guidance Key Federal Sustainable Design Activities Interagency Sustainable Working Group Mission: To lead the Federal Government s implementation of sustainable building laws, regulations, Presidential directives &other Federal policies. GSA Office of Federal High Performance Green Buildings Responsibilities: Identify, review & analyze Federal actions affecting green buildings Identify tools to aid LCC decisionmaking Identify incentives to encourage green building 11

12 Federal Organization Mandates & Guidance Key Federal Sustainable Design Activities DOE Office of Commercial High Performance Green Buildings Responsibilities: Promote high-performance building R&D Develop high-performance green building clearinghouse Develop public-private partnerships with the Consortium DOE Certification System & Level for Green Federal Buildings Responsibilities: Consult with GSA & DOD to recommend a green building rating system and level for Federal green buildings. 12

13 Federal Facility Performance under EPACT and E.O , FY 2008 Results Goal/Requirement Reduce energy intensity (Btu/sq.ft.) by 9 percent compared to percent reduction required in 2015 Use renewable electric energy equivalent to a least 3% of total use for , 5% for and 7.5% for 2013 onward; at least half must come from sources developed after January 1, Reduce water consumption intensity (Gal/sq.ft.) relative to 2007 baseline, by 2 percent annually; 16 percent by the end of fiscal year FY 2008 Federal Performance (Preliminary) 19 of 22 covered agencies met goal. The government decreased energy use per square foot by 12.3% in FY 2008 relative to FY (9.3% without additional credits) 16 of 22 agencies met the goal. The government purchased or produced renewable energy in FY 2008 equivalent to 3.4% of electricity use. 18 of 22 agencies met the goal The government reduced water use per square foot by 2.0% in FY 2008 compare to FY
