5 Energy performance certificates for buildings 1 Scope This standard specifies the requirements for producing energy performance certificates (EPCs) for buildings that compare the energy performance of the building to a reference energy consumption. This standard addresses only a) the energy performance of buildings based on measured energy consumption, b) existing buildings that have been in operation to meet a particular need associated with the use of the building for two years or longer, and that have not been subjected to a major renovation or change of occupancy within the year before the assessment period, c) building occupancy classes considered in SANS XA for which the maximum energy consumption is specified in SANS XA, and d) maximum energy consumption values contained in SANS XA. This standard includes specifications for the format of the certificate. NOTE See annex A for the format of the energy performance certificate. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document.
