2 San Philippine situationer The accumulation of waste has been a constant problem in the Philippines due to following: a. over-increasing population, b. urbanization and economic growth all contribute to the increase in solid waste generation.

3 URBANIZATION

4 The garbage of the municipality on the past 10 years was become a problem of the municipality. Almost 45 thousand people produced around 12 tons of garbage per day.

5 San Francisco old practices (10 years ago) Garbage are left to streets, vacant lot, which become breeding places for flies and other insects that spread communicable diseases. Some are thrown in drainage and canals which block the sewerage system that cause floods even with minimal rainfall. Some are burned resulting in air pollution.

10 The local government unit of the municipality of San Francisco, under Mayor ALFREDO A. ARQUILLANO,JR., successfully enacted all the policies, objectives, guiding principles of municipal ordinance based on the Ecological Solid Waste management act of 2000.( R.A.9003 ) and other considerations of the framework. It also modifies the system to better suit the needs and resources of the community.

17 1. INFORMATION, EDUCATION, CAMPAIGN Conduct information drive at school and community meetings Educate people from Local Government Employee down to purok level Educate youth and children by school to school campaign

35 Changes in Practices Most households segregate their wastes now, lessening the workload of the garbage collectors. And to the solid waste management IEC team during their house to house monitoring once a month.

36 90% of residents have stopped burning their garbage because of the intensive campaign. People have initiated to clean up their surroundings. Litter cans can now be seen in barangay MRF. People have learned proper disposal of solid wastes/ animal/human wastes.
