SITE DESCRIPTION 2.1. Lcatin Ratte sub village is ne f the ptential site fr a Micr Hydrpwer (MHP) implementatin. Ratte sub-village is part f Baruppu Selatan village, Rinding All district, Tana Traja regency, Sulawesi Selatan prvince. It is lcated gegraphically at S '7.8 and E '22.4. Baruppu Selatan village nrth brder is Baruppu Tengah village, Pangala village at the suthern side, a cnservated frest at the western side and Bulu Manik hill at the eastern side. the MHP scheme lcatin (pwer huse) culd be reached by walk in 645 minutes (see Table 1) Tpgraphic and Gelgical Cnditin The MHP scheme will uses water frm Tamang river. The river lcated n the nrthwest f Ratte sub-village. Frm the MHP scheme lcatin (pwer huse) the river ges t the east directin. Tpgraphic cnditins alng the river are mderate slpe. A rice Table 1. SOCIO - ECONOMIC CONDITION Village settlement in Baruppu Selatan and Baruppu Tengah villages are spread, nt cncentrated. There is an adequate distance between every small grup frm ne t anther. Almst the villagers are farmers. Their main crps are cffee, avcad, and passin fruit. Several villagers are wrk in the city. They still cultivate their land in a traditinal way, withut any mdern agriculture knw-hw. Accrding t the agriculture ptential in the area, Baruppu Selatan and Baruppu Tengah are quite prspective t develp further. There are existing public facilities such as elementary schl, junir high schl, church, public health center, and village gvernment ffice. There are als cmmunity rganizati-ns such as LKMD, Farmer grups, and religius grups. Figure 1 Landscapes f Barereng sub-village; Backgrunds are Elementary schl and Junir high schl building. 4. POTENTIAL ENERGY SOURCES AND ELECTRIFICATION CONDITION The villages arund the MHP scheme has nt been electrified and will nt get electricity frm PLN grid, at least until The nearest PLN electricity grid is abut 8 km. Existing main energy surces fr villagers are kersene, and il fr lighting. Baruppu Selatan villages have used simple micr hydr technlgy such as lcally designed hydrpwer t generate electricity. The numbers f that simple micr hydr in the village are three units (unfrtunately, villagers at Baruppu Selatan still use traditinal il lamp fr lighting, since a 'crucial mess' which caused by the inequality distributin f thse hydr pwer plants). The village arund MHP scheme lcatin ecnmically have many ptential, especially in agriculture, and frestry sectrs. Hwever, related prductin facilities are still insufficient, there are sme pssibilities such as: sawmill, and cffee grinding. MHP develpment is expected giving valuable supprt t increase cmmunity ecnmics quality apart frm lighting need. As shwn at Table 2, the number f huse hlds that will electrified by MHP scheme at Baruppu Selatan and Baruppu Tengah villages are 365 husehlds. Based n empiric Table 2. HYDRO-POWER POTENTIAL Accrding t tpgraphic measurement, water frm Tamang River will be flwed thrugh intake then t headrace which the length is abut 293 m (see detailed site plan in Annex 4). Fr this MHP scheme, measured grss head is abut 15.4 m and estimated penstck length is abut 43 m. Detail penstck prfile is shwn in Annex 5. Estimated minimum pwer electricity need in Baruppu Selatan and Baruppu Tengah village and the surrunding area is abut kw. T fulfil this requirement, the MHP discharge have t be abut 575 l/s with the estimate net head 15 m, with this calculatin, the MHP scheme culd generate electricity pwer abut 43.9 kw and still have reserved pwer abut 5.46 kw (see detail calculatin at Table 4.). Actual discharge measured f Tamang River is 6960 liter/secnd. Recrded discharge data r annual discharge are nt available and discharge measurement dne nt in the driest mnth, therefre maximum discharge in the dry seasn estimated abut 575 l/s. Hwever, design discharge has t be determined in detail and mre accurate, cnsidering all factr including the Figure 2 Nature f Streambed f Tamang river, Ratte; The selected lcatin fr Dam and Intake f MHP scheme annual fld which ccurred nce in a year, (accrding t the investigatin), and catch - ment area when a further feasibility study fr this MHP dne.
