Ballast water treatment systems specifically designed to safely and economically eliminate the worldwide transfer of aquatic invasive species New Sojiz Bulk Carrier, the Buenos Aires, was equipped with the Ecochlor Treatment System in 2011.

3 THE ECOCHLOR BALLAST WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM A rugged system built for the most demanding regulations The Ecochlor Process includes a Filtration System to remove sediments and larger organisms as well as a Treatment System that eliminates smaller organisms and pathogens. 5 Exceeds IMO D2 Ballast Water Treatment Standards and meets proposed USCG Standards System effectiveness is not affected by salinity, temperature, turbidity, organics, vibration or other variables that impact other treatment options The filters are placed in close proximity to the ballast pump but the Treatment System can be located in any convenient location onboard the vessel. 1. The Heart of the System Ecochlor s Chlorine Dioxide Generator is compact and has few moving parts. The physical size of the Generator is the same for all systems. Environmentally safe does not generate chlorine, chlorine gas or other unwanted decomposition products Ten times the capacity for less than twice the footprint The system is scaled for different size ships. Because of the technology and efficient design, larger systems are particularly cost competitive when compared to other technical approaches. SERIES 100 ES m3/hr 11.0 m2 Module is self-contained, fully automated, requires low power and has a small footprint SERIES 150 Treatment will have no effect on ballast water tank coatings ClO2 technology Chlorine dioxide is a highly effective oxidant and biocide used around the world in a wide range of water purification applications. It offers a number of advantages over other disinfection chemicals and techniques. It can be generated safely and reliably on demand, is non-corrosive to ship metal or coatings, and the decomposition products are environmentally safe. Ecochlor is the exclusive worldwide licensee of Ecolab/Nalco s Purate chlorine dioxide technology for the disinfection of ship ballast water. ES m3/hr 13.0 m2 How It Works Venturi ClO2 solution The Treatment System Supply Water to ballast line generates a dilute solution of ClO2 chlorine dioxide as needed sensor Mixing Chamber to treat incoming ballast water. A small amount of Sulfuric Acid Purate supply water is needed from the ship. The water can be seawater or fresh water and is only needed during ballasting. A vacuum is created in the mixing chamber as the water passes through a specially designed venturi tube. Once this vacuum is established, the two precursor chemicals are introduced into the mixing chamber. The supply water then becomes a dilute solution of chlorine dioxide that is sent to the main ballast water line. SERIES 200 ES m3/hr 20.0 m2 SERIES 250 ES m3/hr 21.3 m2

5 THE ECOCHLOR BALLAST WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM FILTRATION SYSTEM Filtration of sediment and larger aquatic species is essential for ballast water treatment Unique 40 micron woven screen technology Fully automatic self-cleaning handles heavy sediment loads Two Stages for Comprehensive Filtration The Ecochlor Filtration System has two stages coarse filtration and fine filtration. 1. Inlet 2. Primary Coarse Screen 3. Weave-wire Screen 4. Suction Scanner 5. Proximity Nozzles 6. Air Release Valve 7. Outlet 8. Flush Water Discharge Outlet 9. Flush Valve 10. Suction Pump 11. Worm Gear and Motor Flexible Modular Approach The modular filtration system enables a vertical filter to operate in the exact same manner as a horizontally installed unit while significantly reducing its footprint where space is tight. Long service life due to anti-corrosion coatings and 316L stainless steel screens Minimal flow during cleaning; low operating pressures Protective layer Filter (particle size) control layer Protective layer Reinforcement layer Small footprint and can be installed vertically or horizontally Filter sizes for every application Unique Filter Screen Structure The unique screen technology enables it to have an unparalleled zooplankton removal rate. Made out of 4 layers of sintered stainless steel screens, it is a reinforced filtering element requiring absolutely no support. Modular combinations for flexibility. All modules can be installed horizontally or vertically. Filters smaller than shown are also available. 550 m 3 /hr 1,100 m 3 /hr 1,100 m 3 /hr 1,650 m 3 /hr VISIT ECOCHLOR.COM TO SEE VIDEO OVERVIEW Continuous Screen Cleaning The unique suction nozzles allow 100% cleaning of the screen after each flush cycle, ensuring continuous, uninterrupted filter operation without any risk of clogging.

6 THE ECOCHLOR BALLAST WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM INSTALLATION System is self-contained, fully automated and suitable for new construction or retrofits Buenos Aires System installed in 2011 Owned by Sojitz Corporation 83,000 dwt Panamax Bulker Max BW Flow Rate 2,600 m 3 /hr Commercial Cargo Vessels with Large Scale Ecochlor Systems Systems in operation since 2004 Ideally suited for installation on the largest bulkers and tankers in the world Easy operation and maintenance Ecochlor s first Ballast Water Treatment Systems were installed on the Atlantic Compass owned by Atlantic Container Line, and the Moku Pahu managed by Matson Navigation. These were the first two systems accepted into the USCG STEP program in Worldwide network for service and support Atlantic Compass System installed in 2004 Swedish flagged Max BW Flow Rate: 2,500 m 3 /hr Operates in Europe, NA East Coast About us Ecochlor, Inc. was founded in 2001 with the sole purpose of commercializing recently obtained patents for a superior ballast water treatment technology. The patents encompass US and International protection for the use, generation and control of an active substance (chlorine dioxide) for control of aquatic invasive species in ships ballast water. The company installed its first commercial scale system in Ecochlor systems provide ship owners with cost effective, environmentally safe treatment that complies with all enacted and proposed standards and regulations. In-house experts and the company s team of strategic partners not only supply complete design and fabrication of the Ecochlor Systems, but also marine engineering, naval architecture, chemical treatment expertise, shipboard installation and ongoing technical and regulatory certification support. The Ecochlor Treatment System can be located in any convenient location on the ship. Only the Filtration System needs to be located in close proximity to the ballast pumps. Moku Pahu System installed in 2006 US flagged Max BW Flow Rate: 1,500 m 3 /hr Operates in Hawaii, CA, Africa, Asia
