2 The name of our company, SHIELD Scientific, reflects the particular focus we have on the laboratory and high technology sectors. Our aim is to bring to these markets personal protective equipment that for the first time is adapted to the needs of these segments. Indeed up until recently, the products typically sold to the laboratory and high technology sectors originated from the medical or industrial field. Accordingly we have set four priorities for responding to the real needs of users in these sectors. OUR VALUES Customer centric Focus on the needs of the customer. Creative & innovative Be at the forefront of product and solution development. Inspired to win Develop win-win relationships. Integrity & clarity A company with whom it is easy to do business and with a clear focus on meeting expectations. Partnership & trust Build long term partnerships with the emphasis on mutual gain. PROTECTION AGAINST CHEMICAL RISK We have discovered an aspect of the regulations that was not appreciated by some manufacturers, whilst others have chosen to ignore it. Manufacturers that have registered their gloves as PPE Category III (Complex Design) and have had their gloves tested against the 2003 version of the standards have overlooked the minimum liquid proof length requirement specified in EN374-1:2003 and outlined in EN420:2003. The latter would entail gloves being respectively 250mm and 260mm for sizes 9 (Large) and 10 (X-Large). With the exception of long length gloves, at present few disposable glove manufactures adhere to this regulatory requirement with most standard gloves being 240mm. The latter is the minimum length required for medical exam gloves. SHIELD Scientific is the first manufacturer to market gloves with a length of 260mm providing superior wrist protection from chemical splashes. PROTECTION AGAINST MICRO-BIOLOGICAL RISK We were the first manufacturer to offer a glove with an AQL of 0.65, which is the highest level of protection to penetration by micro-organisms according to EN374-2:2003. The norm in the market is an AQL of 1.5. In an effort to enhance the barrier properties of our gloves to microorganisms, we additionally test them for resistance to viral penetration. This combination of benefits makes the SHIELDskin range the natural choice for all those in the laboratory exposed to micro-biological risks. PROTECTION OF THE PROCESS For some researchers, protection of assays is the key priority. For this reason we have adopted a traceability procedure normally associated with cleanroom gloves. Likewise particular care is taken with SHIELDskin ORANGE NITRILE gloves, which undergo additional washing and chlorination to achieve a high level of cleanliness. These gloves are washed no less than nine times in contrast to the usual three washing cycles. THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF COMFORT The comfort and well-being of glove-wearers is an integral part of the development process. In particular we have focused on the risks posed by gloves to the health of users. Thus our natural rubber latex gloves have levels of protein below those typically encountered with other gloves on the market. Whilst numerous manufacturers are engaged in a rationalisation process in particular a reduction in the range of sizes in an effort to cut costs - SHIELD Scientific is committed to maintaining the five sizes in order to offer choice for optimum fit. As part of an unstinting effort to produce gloves that maximize comfort for glove-wearers, we embrace the latest advances in nitrile technology. By offering gloves based on Skin Nitrile, users can experience a level of elasticity not normally associated with nitrile gloves. Naturally these steps have been taken whilst appreciating the economic restraints in the market. «The SHIELD Scientific team welcomes you to a new era in disposable glove technology» Document printed using vegetable-based ink and on paper derived from sustainably managed forests. 4 A revolution in Glove Technology PPE 1 Cat. I & III EN374-3:2003 J K L EN FOR HANDS THAT NEED EXTRA PROTECTION In response to user demand for a glove offering a higher level of protection in the laboratory but without compromising dexterity and comfort, SHIELD Scientific has developed the SHIELDskin CHEM range of gloves. Specifically SHIELDskin CHEM NEO NITRILE 300 represent a new era in glove technology combining enhanced compliance, comfort and protection. This is achieved by virtue of the multi-polymer design coupled with the elasticity afforded by Skin Nitrile technology. Apart from being registered according to Council Directive 89/686/EEC as Personal Protective Equipment Category III (Complex Design), SHIELDskin CHEM gloves qualify as chemical resistant gloves having achieved a minimum breakthrough time of thirty minutes in at least three of the twelve chemicals listed in EN374-1:2003. LEVEL 3 KEY FEATURES Striking red colour helps to highlight the suitability of this glove for applications where an extra level of protection is sought in the laboratory. Multi-polymer design and thicker gauge provide greater protection to permeation from chemical splashes. AQL of 0,65 (Level 3) according to EN374-2:2003 gives highest level of resistance to penetration from chemicals and micro-biological hazards. Unique Skin Nitrile technology providing double walled barrier resistance Extra-length of 30cm to provide enhanced protection of the wrist from chemical splashes and liquid-borne pathogens. 5 A revolution in Glove Technology PPE 1 Cat. III EN LEVEL 3 EN374-1:2003 SHIELDskin is a range of gloves specifically developed for laboratory use and focuses on meeting the needs of users in terms of comfort, compliance and protection. They are registered according to Council Directive 89/686/EEC as Personal Protective Equipment Category III (Complex Design), offering protection to irreversible risk and have been tested according to the 2003 version of the standards. The manufacture of nitrile gloves in this range is based on a new Skin Nitrile technology, which provides a skin-like sensation more akin to latex gloves. This is achieved through a double dipping process and is evident from the unique twin tone colours. The colour ORANGE, typically associated with higher risk applications, allows for easy colour differentiation. KEY FEATURES Differentiated colour ORANGE.
