Outcome: " 200 Energy Conservation Pledges signed " 200 CFLs distributed = Energy Savings of 9,720 kwh/year " This event lead the way for the rest of our efforts

6 Green Earth Club! Developed by interns! Purpose: " Raise student involvement " Create a sustainable organization for CSUSB students interested in the Environment! Chartered by Associated Students Inc. Green Earth Club members meet for a pizza social.

7 ENERGY STAR Tour Dorm Rooms! ENERGY STAR (ES) Appliances:! Telephone! TV! DVD Player! Stereo! Lamp ES Dorm Room in Morongo Residence Hall! Tour rooms also include:! Information about ES appliances on the market! List of places where ES appliances can be purchased ES Stereo in tour rooms.

8 Phantom Load Event Halloween Event for Residents! Purpose: To educate residents about Phantom Loads! Phantom Loads: " Clocks, memories, remote controls, etc. consume energy 24 hours a day 7 days a week! " By switching off the surge protector you can conserve energy!! 150 Surge Protectors given to residents to stop phantom loads! Residents from Arrowhead Village pose with their surge protectors

10 Environmental Expo! Organized by Environmental Educational Research Center! Open to the local community! Over 10,000 people in attendance! GCP exhibited the CFL light display in 2005 and 2006! Distributed over 900 CFLs Earth Day Celebration Oksana and Felicity, GCP Interns, exhibit the light display.

14 Mock Energy Bill! Interns collected Electricity Usage and cost for the entire campus! Purpose: Alert students to the high cost of electricity & encourage conservation Campus Wide Electricity Usage and Cost On-campus Housing Electricity Usage and Cost

15 Installing Timers on Campus Vending Machines " Cut off energy 10pm-7am when buildings are closed " Project approved by campus stakeholders " Cost Savings: $4,000 to $5,000 a year according to ENERGY STAR

16 Measurable Energy Savings for the Past Academic Year! Approximately 146,000 kwh saved! Approximately $22,000 saved! Assumptions: " high rate of adoption and use of energy efficient technology we disperse on campus, including replacing at least four incandescent light bulbs with CFLs and using them 4 hrs/day over the course of a 270-day academic year! Advantage: " these savings estimates can be used to track our progress.

17 Future Projects! Replacing incandescent light bulbs with CFLs in the underground heating and air tunnels! Making surge protectors permanent fixtures in residence halls! Organizing a big Welcome Week event for residents and distributing information during fall orientations! Installing bi-level staircase lighting in underused staircases! Replacing paper towels with ENERGY STAR hand dryers! Identifying and addressing other energy wastes on campus: dining facilities, student union, and other buildings! Enhancing our marketing strategy with more awareness building and positive reinforcement
