Was this an earlier well? This Unverified Municipal Well Inventory is as complete and thorough as possible, given available documentation. However, MDH Planners and Hydros, as well as City representatives should feel free to provide additional information as necessary. The 1955 Fisher historical map shows the city's water tower, a likely private well in a pump house at a creamery at Ave. F & 6th St. (currently Land County Well Index (1-mile radius); MDH DWP O Lakes facility), a likely well in a pump house at the Chisago Co. Fair Grounds, a pump house Microfiche; MDH Muni Well (likely well) at Ave. C & 3rd St., and another creamery at Ave. B & 2nd St. (currently Maple Island Inventory (1Suite); Lakesnwoods.com; Biennial Co-op). Both of these former creameries have wells that date to 1955 and the PWS should attempt to Report of the MN State Dairy and Food determine if those wells have been sealed. The 1947 MGS Bulletin 32 mentions that the city had Commissioner-1907; Minnesota Geological several wells, some dug and two others drilled. The dug wells were 25 ft. deep and the two drilled Survey City Well File Folders; MGS Bulletin wells are each about 100 ft. deep. The dug wells may have been located near Wells 1 & 2 (A & B (22, 27, 31, or 32); MN Historical Society- on list). A 326 ft. deep creamery well, drilled in 1944, is also mentioned. This well is likely Collections Online and/or Minnesota Reflections at the Land O Lakes facility. Can the city determine if this association is correct? Recall that online; MNBrew.com or oldbreweries.com; both creameries were in existence in 1955, when the Fisher map was produced? The Land-O-Lakes MDH DWP MNDWIS; Past and Present MN Creamery has three sealed wells (217929, , & ). Rush City in Chisago Co. is not Railroad Stations; 1911 USGS Water Supply mentioned in the 1911 USGS Water Supply Paper, Geology and Underground Waters of Southern Paper No. 256, Hall, Meiner & Fuller; MN MN. The Well Record for at Forest Blvd. lists the well as "Public" and owned by the Historical Soc.- Fire Underwriters Insp. Bureau City, yet the well is not in the MDH's MNDWIS. Is this well inactive or wrongly assigned to the (Fisher) historical map ; MDH WELLS city? Can the city explain? It appears that sealing record H (F on list) was for a shallower well than Well No. 4 (D on list). This sealed well was near Wells 1 & 2. By sealing four wells (referenced as A, B, C, & F), the city has sealed a major portion of the old wells and now needs to find and seal an unknown number of 25 ft. deep dug wells (E on list), as well as Well No. 4 (D on list) which does not appear to have been sealed. 3 Minnesota Public Water Supplies 3 of 3 2/2/ :40 AM 3 Use of MDH Public Water Supply Sources Report The report you have received shows three classes of Public Water Supply wells: In Use (actively used) Removed From Flow (for back-up or emergency use; may be disconnected from PWS) Unverified Wells (unused wells with no documented location, unique ID number, and/or well sealing record) Unverified wells are unsealed, abandoned wells. These wells pose a risk of contamination to existing wells and aquifers. According to State Well Code and under the terms of your Wellhead Protection Plan, your PWS may need to identify, locate, and properly seal Unverified Wells within your Drinking Water Supply Management Area, to current MDH standards. While historical records may indicate that some of these wells were "capped", "abandoned", or "sealed" in the past, unless it can be shown that the sealing was performed to current standards, they may need to be located, cleaned out, and sealed properly with a well sealing record issued. The report lists database references that were searched to compile the report. Under "Remarks" are notes and questions to help you with this process. State grant funding is available to help fund sealing of these old public water supply wells. If you have questions, please talk to your MDH Planner or Hydrologist to address your PWS s specific issues. This report is not intended to be the "last word" on the status of unverified wells and your input will be critical in successfully finding and sealing these potential sources of contamination. 3
