1 UNIVRSITY OF LINCOLN JOB DSCRIPTION JOB TITL DPARTMNT Researcher in Metal Process KTP Associate Research and nterprise Department LOCATION Brayford JOB NUMBR L1139 SALARY RPORTS TO 25,000 to 27,000 dependent on experience Reader/Programme Lead in Chemsitry DAT November 2017 CONTXT The post has been created as a result of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership ( GSA nvironmental Ltd ( and the School of Chemistry in the College of Science at the University of Lincoln ( GSA nvironmental Ltd is the global specialist in extraction of transition metals such as vanadium and nickel inherent in crude oil from secondary sources such as power station ash and gasification residues; and catalysts such as molybdenum and iron that would otherwise be sacrificed from vacuum residue upgrading processes. GSAe uses its own hydrometallurgical process developed and implemented its own processing plant in Harwich, ssex. Research has in recent years focused on optimising the process technology and developing new approaches for initial treatment. The Researcher in Metal Processes for the Knowledge Transfer Partnership will drive and lead a project to enhance the efficient use of global mineral resources and to minimise the impact on the environment by further developing the company s recovery of vanadium, molybdenum and nickel by developing a novel process to produce vanadium electrolyte without the need for intermediate products. Vanadium is the best material to use for community scale green energy storage and this research will have global benefits. The KTP Associate will be employed by the University of Lincoln for 2 years but be based at the research centre of GSA nvironmental Ltd at the Boole Technology Centre in Lincoln and subject to its employment practices and conditions of work. The successful candidate will be supervised both by GSA nvironmental Ltd and the College of Science at the University of Lincoln. JOB PURPOS To build on the company s current knowledge base from previous research and development to enhance the efficient use of global mineral resources thereby minimising the impact on the environment by further developing the company s recovery of vanadium, molybdenum and nickel from secondary sources that would otherwise be landfilled. 2 formulation, in particular vanadium, to meet the needs of the emerging green energy storage market as well as traditional users. New approaches will allow the company to broaden their customer base allowing for long term business sustainability. To contribute to new analysis of feedstock techniques and a change strategy for new markets. Page 2 of 6
