3 1 Introduction This report focuses on activities and events during the month of September 2016 with the exception of community engagement activity which is reported for mid-september to mid- October Safety and Environmental Reporting Orica Kooragang Island records safety and environmental incidents and opportunities for improvement in the Enablon reporting system. For each incident, a manager is nominated who ensures that the incident is investigated where required, and actions generated to minimise the potential for recurrence. Actions associated with the incident are captured in a database with responsibilities and scheduled due dates to ensure completion. Category September 2016 Summary Injuries 0 There were no injuries requiring medical treatment during the month. Environmental Non Compliances 0 There were no environmental non-compliances during the month. Complaints received by Orica 0 There were no community complaints received during the month. Complaints received by EPA* 0 Orica did not receive any community complaints via the EPA during the month * Note: Complaints received by EPA and Orica contacted to investigate. 2.1 September 2016 Environmental Performance The following section provides information on Orica s compliance during September 2016 with the site s Environment Protection Licence conditions Water Emissions Effluent is process water captured across the site and discharged to the Hunter River North Arm via a licensed discharge point. Daily composite sampling is undertaken for arsenic, chromium VI, zinc, nitrogen and total suspended solids. ph, temperature and flow are monitored continuously and oil and grease twice weekly. The results for the month are shown in the table below. 6 4 Community Engagement Activity Reported for mid- September to mid-october Stockton Surf Life Saving Club Sponsorship In late September we commenced a new sponsorship agreement with the Stockton Surf Life Saving Club. The club will receive $7,500 a year for three years with the funds being used to purchase much-needed equipment and to support youth development programs. 4.2 Community Investment Program In early October the assessment panel for the Community Investment Program met to consider applications for 2016 round 2. Ten community groups were successful in obtaining more than $68,000 worth of grants for a wide variety of worthy projects. Northside Boardriders: The grant will go towards the purchase of a new event trailer to carry equipment and promote the club. Stockton Landcare: The organisation will purchase and plant native flora species along the Stockton peninsula sea front. Fern Bay Public School P&C: The organisation received funding to purchase 300 books for the school s Literacy for Life project. Firstchance: The grant will be used to run a social skills program for children with a disability or developmental delay. Charles O Neill Hostel: The hostel will run a music and pet therapy program for its residents. Newcastle East Public School P&C: The grant will enable the school to renovate its kitchen space and create a vegetable garden. Curious Legends: The funding will go towards the Hidden Port project, which will involve community workshops, performance activities and a writing/photography competition. Islington Village Community Group: The group will install signage at the Islington Park playground to provide instructions for using the musical instruments. The Orica Community Investment Program supports initiatives that promote education and lifelong learning, improve and protect the environment, and build strong communities. There are two funding rounds per year one in March and one in September. OricaKI Community SHEC Report_ October 2016 Page 5

7 4.3 Carrington Starlight Cinema On Saturday 1 October we sponsored the Carrington Starlight Cinema held at the Carrington Bowling Club. The family-friendly event attracted more than 100 people to watch Zootopia and Star Wars on a huge inflatable screen set up on the bowling green. OricaKI Community SHEC Report_ October 2016 Page 6
