2 SWACHHTA PAKHWADA (MAY 16 TO 31, 2018) SWACHH BHARAT MISSION C O N T E N T S SJVN observed Swachhta Pakhwaara from 16th May to 31st May 2018 at all its offices and projects throughout the country with a host of activities to promote and propagate the mission of Swachh Bharat in a big way. Apart from the long term activities on Swachh Bharat Mission, SJVN engaged itself in various swachhta activities which focussed innovative and exemplary actions like generating awareness for keeping our rivers clean, involvement of public in cleanliness drives including river banks, conservation of natural drinking waterbodies, promoting hygiene among girl students by distribution of sanitary napkins, provision of separate toilets for girls in schools, reclamation of waste dumping sites for development of public parks, etc. The action taken is sustainable having long term impact. 3 ADOPTION OF ICONIC PLACES AND PRESERVATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE Bhimakali Temple complex at Sarahan and Tara Devi Temple at Shimla has been adopted by SJVN. 5 RECLAMATION OF WASTE DISPOSAL SITES FOR PUBLIC PARKS A step in the direction of improving the quality of life by converting waste dumping areas into public parks has proved to be the backbone of not only promoting cleanliness in the society but also improving the quality of life of the people is what SJVN firmly believes. 7 ADOPTION OF VILLAGES UNDER ADARSH GAON YOJANA (PROVISION OF URBAN FACILITIES IN RURAL AREAS) SJVN has adopted two villages - Jhakri in Distt. Shimla HP and Bayal in Distt. Kullu HP for development into model villages (Adarsh Gaon). Infrastructural, sanitation and other facilities are being provided for enhancing quality of life of the locals and augumenting rural economy. Power tillers for Agriculture at Bayal, Distt. 8 PROVISION FOR MAINTENANCE OF TOILETS CONSTRUCTED UNDER SWACHH VIDYALYA ABHIYAN In recognition to the historical announcement made by our Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 2nd October, 2014 that all schools in the country should have toilets with separate toilets for girls by 2nd October, 2015, SJVN constructed 2421 toilets (1199 toilets for boys and 1222 toilets for girls). SJVN has made provision for the maintenance of these 5000/- per toilet per year. Additionally, SJVN is also constructing 178 toilets in Himachal Pradesh through Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. 7 Toilet constructed under Swachh Vidyalya Abhiyan

10 SEWERAGE TREATMENT PLANT Constructed Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) of one million liters per day capacity at Jhakri Distt, Shimla, H.P. 11 INSTALLATION OF DUSTBINS In order to promote Swachhta in the society, SJVN has undertaken to provide 24,000 Dustbins in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. 12 DEEN DAYAL UPADHYAYE JAL SARANKSHAN YOJANA In the direction of water sustainability, SJVN launched a unique scheme named Deen Dayal Upadhyaye SJVN Jal Sarankshan Yojana. The scheme aimed at conservation of water and soil, regeneration of green cover, judicious use of natural resources within a particular watershed, and increasing the productive potential of degraded lands through various watershed interventions. SJVN has been successful in restoring and rehabilitating over 60 water bodies and bowdies which have become lifeline of the rural areas.during the Pakhawada, all these water bodies were cleaned afresh and message was propagated for the villagers to maintain them as a clean source of water. 13 BIO DIVERSITY DAY : SJVN IS TRAINING FARMERS UNDER ITS DEEN DAYAL UPADHYAY KRISHI KAUSHAL VIKAS YOJANA AT NAUNI AND PALAMPUR UNIVERSITIES IN HIMAHAL PRADESH SJVN s endeavour is towards increasing the bio-diversity of India. Through the two universities the company has undertaken to provide skill development training to 1600 farmers every year from Himachal Pradesh in the fields of horticulture, floriculture, vegetable, mushroom farming, bee-keeping, medicinal and aromatic plants, nursery plant protection, organic farming and environment impact assessment, etc. This drive also facilitates environment protection, soil conservation, water conservation which ultimately aims at sustainable development. 12 Snapshots of farmers skill development training

16 SWACHHTA AWARENESS COMPETITIONS ORGANISED IN VARIOUS SCHOOLS To imbibe the habit of cleanliness among students various competitions were organized in the schools around the SJVN's projects located in 6 states of the Country. 15

17 PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS To bring home the message of Swachh Bharat various awareness camps were organised in villages around the company s projects. The message was also propagated by organizing workshops and Nukkad Nataks in villages. 19 SWACHHTA RALLY TO PROMOTE SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN The Rally was organised at all the projects and offices of the Company spread in 6 states of the Indian Union. Chairman & Managing Director, Sh. Nand Lal Sharma informed that the purpose of this rally is to develop a habit of cleanliness amongst all and making the vision of Hon ble Prime Minister, Shri Narender Modi a reality.the participants of the rally not only promoted the message but also picked garbage strewn on the path of rally. 18 Glimpses of Swacchtta Rally at Corporate Office Shimla and different units of SJVN

20 CREATING AWARENESS THROUGH SHRAMDAN IN COLLABORATION WITH LOCAL COMMUNITY In the series of various activities towards promoting and propagating the Sawachhta Pakhwada in Shimla and around, SJVN organised a cleanliness drive at Shiv Gufa temple situated on National highway -22 (Bypass road) at village Malyana near Shimla. 21 TREE PLANTATION DRIVE Tree Plantation Drives were undertaken at various projects during the Swachhta Pakhwada for promoting clean & green environment and make it pollution free The company is in the process of planting 17,000 saplings 20 Tree Plantation drive at village Shanan, Distt. 22 PROMOTING RENEWABLE ENERGY SJVN takes pride in promoting renewable energy and have signed MOUs with Energy Efficiency Services Limited for installation of 6000 LED Solar street Lights, High Mast Lights in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. 21 Installation of LED solar street lights by SJVN Foundation

23 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF UN PEACEKEEPERS Essay competitions on International UN Peacekeepers Day were organized in many schools and nominations for award have been received. The students securing higher position are being rewarded. 22 Awareness amongst Students on UN Peacekeeper Day by experts

24 WORLD TOBACCO DAY The world tobacco day was organized in many schools and project offices of SJVN. The impact of drug abuse was discussed in detail by the experts 23 Awareness sessions on impact of Tobacco at Schools and offices
