3 DGV: GRIT REMOVAL VORTEX The DGV Vortex is installed in a circular concrete or stainless steel tank. The screened effluent enters into the tank by means of a suitable tangential inlet channel. A rotary paddle creates a vortex effect which settles the grit particles to the bottom of the grit trap. Air is blown through a pipe into the base of the airlift system. As this air rises through the central discharge pipe it carries the grit laden with liquid to the DGC grit classifier or an DGW Grit Washer. The grit can also be carried via a grit pump. In the upper chamber, the effluent without grit flows out the outlet channel. Typical Applications Municipal wastewater Industrial effluent Abbatoirs, fish and other food processing plants Sludge and scum screening Commercial outlets Stream, or pond screening Benefits Low maintenance Quick and easy installation Can be retrofitted Stainless steel fabrication Reliable and automatic self-cleaning operation Specifications Flow capacity up to 52 MGD(8200m3/h) Fabrication AISI 304 or AISI info@drycake.com DRYCAKE

5 DGC: GRIT CLASSIFIER The DGC grit classifier offers a simple and continuous cost-effective solution for removing grit and sand from process flows or waste water discharge. It can be applied to industrial processing, paper mills, abattoirs, food processing, refineries, for either recovery or removal purposes, or to waste flows for providing protection to downstream mechanical equipment in addition to improving the performance and reliability of drainage systems. DGC Grit classifiers consist of a shaftless spiral screw conveyor and hopper. Process liquors or waste effluent discharges into the top of the hopper. The grit and sand then settle to the bottom of the hopper with sufficient particle settling to attain > 80 % removal of 0.20 mm (200 µm) size mineral particles. Once the grit reaches a pre-designated level, a screw conveyor transports, washes and compacts before disposing them into an integrated bagging system or grit bin. Floatable solids including suspended organic matter discharge, along with waste water, out the liquid discharge. Typical Applications Small sewage treatment works Municipal wastewater Industrial effluent discharges Paper mills, abattoirs, food processing Chemical industry, refineries Receiving grit from drains or gullies Mineral recovery from processing plant Specifications Flow capacity up to 572GPM(130m3/h) Fabrication AISI 304 or AISI 316 Grit removal efficiency > 80% grain size > 200 μm(0.2mm) Volatile organic > 50% reduction Dewatering efficiency 90% dry residue 35 info@drycake.com DRYCAKE

7 DGW: GRIT WASHER DGW grit washers offer a continuous solution for removing, washing and dewatering grit. Grit removal systems are necessary to protect downstream mechanical equipment and improve the performance and reliability of drainage systems. The DGW grit washer consists of a shaftless screw conveyor and conical hopper. Effluent laden with grit and organic matter discharges into the top of the hopper close to the periphery where a slow rotational movement is produced by the central stirrer. The central stirrer maintains the flow velocities to prevent any suspended organic matter from settling with the grit. The grit settles to the bottom of the hopper. 37 Wash water enters into the bottom of the hopper and, aided by the central stirrer, the grit particles abrade against each other scouring any attached organic matter from their surface. This scouring process is further enhanced by air agitation. Eventually, the screw conveys washes, dewaters and discharges the grit into the grit bin. 97% removal of organic matter is attainable. Suspended organic matter discharges from the classifier hopper at intermittent frequencies and can either be returned to the flow and onward to secondary treatment or back to head of plant. Bagging systems are also available to receive the grit and abate the odour. The grit can then be sealed without any personal contact.
