4 Metro Sustainability Program Program Support Tasks Development of Sustainability Design Guidelines Green construction of Metro infrastructures Bus Rapid Transits, Light Rail, Heavy Rail, and Buildings Sustainability Management System (SMS) Pilot Study at Division 10 Integration of all Metro programs and beyond Identification of various opportunities for process improvement FTA Environmental Management System (EMS) Grant Integrated system of environmental activities 7 Impetus for Baseline AB 32 California Global Warming Solutions Act that requires a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGe) to 1990 levels by 2020 Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) from Transportation & Land- Use decisions are the largest and fastest growing sources of GHGe in the state Regional partnerships with cities, agencies and other key stakeholders will be critical to achieve the AB 32 goals Partnership between Metro, County agencies and Local Government Commission Electronic sent out to all 88 cities, County and 20 Special Public Districts (Infrastructure, Institutional, Service Providers) 8 4

5 LA County Sustainability & Climate Change Purpose of : Better understand our countywide sustainability and climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts Use results to identify gaps and focus regional efforts, advocacy & opportunities (training, funding, policy, information coordination etc.) to close those gaps. 6 LA County Sustainability & Climate Change Metro and the County will share results of this survey by end of June, Use the results to: Develop an LA County baseline to which we can start to measure and track progress Create a sense of urgency for public outreach coordination and messaging Develop a clearinghouse of best management practices and strategies for cities and public agencies Provide one voice of Climate Change advocacy at State and Federal policy arenas Increase public, business and community partnership opportunities Develop regional economies of scale for green procurement, staff training and other opportunities Expand program to our neighbors and beyond 11 Questions Contact: Cris B.
