2 The Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) In 2006, the European Union passed the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive into law. Effective July 2006, the RoHS Directive (2002/95/EC) banned the sale of all new electrical and electronic equipment that contains more than designated maximum allowable levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants. In May 2011, an updated RoHS2 directive (2011/65/EU) added new categories to the list of affected end products, but the list of restricted substances and permitted levels was not changed. The Maximum Control Values (MCV), as stated in the RoHS directive are as follows: Substance MCV (by weight) Substance MCV (by weight) Lead 0.1% Hexavalent Chromium 0.1% Mercury 0.1% Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB) 0.1% Cadmium 0.01% Polybrominated Diphenyl ethers (PBDE) 0.1% We declare that information provided in the table below are true and complete to the best of our knowledge and that the articles we provide are compliant to restrictions on substances listed in Article 4 of DIRECTIVE 2011/65/EU OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 8 June 2011 on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (ROHS recast). 3 Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) European Directive Regulation (EC) No. 2002/96/EC The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2013 became law in the UK on the 1st of January 2014 and replaced the 2006 Regulations. The new Regulations transpose the main provisions of Directive 2012/19/EU on WEEE which recasts the previous Directive 2002/96/EC. Any products supplied by Alphasense Ltd, which are covered under the WEEE Directive, shall be marked with the symbol below. This symbol on the product or its packaging indicates that this product must not be disposed of with your other household waste. Instead, it is your responsibility to dispose of your waste equipment by handing it over to a designated collection point for the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. The separate collection and recycling of your waste equipment at the time of disposal will help conserve natural resources and ensure that it is recycled in a manner that protects human health and the environment. For more information about where you can drop off your waste for recycling, please contact your Local Authority. 4 Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation & Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) European Directive Regulation (EC) No. 1907/200 The European Union s REACH Directive (EC 1907/2006) imposes requirements for the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemical substances and products sold in the EU countries. The purpose of these regulations is to control the use of chemicals within the EU, including the importing of chemicals from outside of the EU, to improve human and environmental protection. The regulations place requirements on companies to register substances they manufacture or import depending on the weight of material and level of hazard associated with that material. Materials or Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) are listed on the Candidate List and in Annex XIV of the European Chemical Hazard Agency (ECHA). Alphasense Ltd certify that their entire range of products, including their packaging, and any other developments currently on-going do not contain any of the SVHC s (Substances of Very High Concern) in any concentration whatsoever, and do not manufacture or import materials with a mass exceeding the 1 tonne limit per annum. Alphasense Ltd are therefore not subject to the registration process but will continue to monitor its position regarding these regulations and update documentation when required to ensure continued compliance with the regulations.
