WHAT IS BUBBLER? Bubbler is a waterborne sanitation system, designed for the onsite treatment of effluent. This means site that sewage can be treated on site without the need for a connection to the municipal grid. THE BUBBLER PROCESS Household grey water and sewage are deposited into the DIGESTER tank. In the Digester tank the sewage is processed through anaerobic as well as aerobic digestion coupled with aeration through the SEPTIC BOSS system.

HOW DOES IT WORK? When the toilet is flushed the sewage is transported to a primary tank (Digester Tank) where it is digested through the Bubbler s patented system.( The Bubbler also enjoys, and actually needs, the effluent from washbasins, bathtubs and showers). The Bubbler uses naturally occurring micro organisms and enzymes contained in the BUBBLER BACTERIA BLEND, which are added as a biological additive to facilitate the digestion. There-after the semi purified water flows into a secondary tank (Ducting Filter) where the pathogens and remaining solids are removed, once again through another Bubbler patented system. The result is water that is suitable for reuse in the cistern, or for the cultivation of crops.

WHERE CAN IT BE USED? Bubbler is ideal for settlements where there are no municipal infrastructure, or where it would be more cost effective to install the Bubbler in stead of creating a traditional municipal sewerage system. The Bubbler is especially suitable for rural areas, or new urban developments where the existing infrastructure does not have the capacity to accommodate the expansion. Bubbler is also the ideal replacement for existing septic tanks.

HOW SAFE IS IT? The final effluent from the Bubbler system complies with the South African National standard for Landfill water. This means that the water is suitable for the irrigation of crops, or reuse in the toilet cisterns, since harmful pathogens and solids have been reduced to a scientifically acceptable standard. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING THE BUBBLER? The use of the Bubbler disposes with the need for expensive sewage disposal systems. The sewage is processed on site, and the water is available for immediate re-use. Recycling is of major importance in water-scarce countries. The Bubbler is a system with no smells, it is easy to clean and it minimises the risk of the spread of sanitation-related diseases by facilitating the appropriate control of disease carrying flies and pests. It furthermore enables safe and appropriate treatment and/or removal of human waste and wastewater in an environmentally sound manner. The Bubbler does not need messy and unhygienic cleanouts like other existing sewerage systems such as dry latrines or existing septic tanks. The Bubbler leaves no solid residue that have to be disposed of on a regular basis, and it is expected that the Bubbler will only need to be pumped out once in every 10 years. The Bubbler will also alleviate the institutional burden and cost of the provision of bulk sewage treatment systems associated with traditional sewerage plants.

MAINTANACE The Bubbler is an easily constructed, low maintenance, and low cost, system. It has a bacteria inoculator that has to be replaced once every 3 months, and 1 chlorine pill that needs replacement approximately every 4 weeks, depending on use. The Bubbler s components are made from PVC and Polyethylene plastics that are virtually indestructible, and itis expected that under normal circumstances it will never need to be replaced. * Please see maintenance report. TECHNICAL INFORMATION The principle is that naturally occurring micro-organisms as opposed to chemical processes are selected as a biological additive to the primary tank. The biological process occurring in the primary tank converts raw sewage into usable filtered grey water, ready for re-use in the toilet cistern and/or landfill. The workhorse in the system is the Multiple Bacteria Airlift (MBA / Septic Boss) which work specific within the bacterial genus Bacillus. These good and human friendly bacteria have inhabited our soils for millions of years, and are largely responsible for cleaning and eating the billions of tons of dead leaves and vegetation that accumulate every year.

Q: How does my current septic tank work? A: Before Septic Boss was installed in your septic tank, there were no real consequences to putting anything you liked into the tank. The conventional anaerobic (without oxygen or aeration) septic tank is basically a construct to remove, by separation and settling, the solid waste from the water you just used to take the solids out of the house by gravity. It in fact does remove from 70 to 90 percent of the solids when properly maintained. Some minimal digestion of the organic solids takes place within the septic tank but the vast majority of the solids are merely retained within the septic tank until you periodically removed them by pumping. Intestinal bacteria are the main group of bacteria within the conventional septic tank and if they were poisoned or reduced by toxic compounds or household products, you put more in each day when you flush the toilet. Our System is different. Q: what makes the bubbler different? A: The Bubbler Blend bacteria are inoculated at start up of the System and normally maintain a healthy community with little oversight. They are not re-introduced each day by flushing the toilet. Between fifty and one hundred billion of additional lab clean spores are introduced when the bacteria filter is replaced as part of the annual maintenance. Unlike a conventional anaerobic septic tank, the Bubbler Blend bacteria digest the solids within the septic tank, thus removing the solids from the waste stream and dramatically reducing the need for pumping. Q: Can the bubbler waste water system adapt to various conditions? A: The Bubbler Blend bacteria are robust and are capable of adapting to a wide variety of conditions and moderate abuses typical of how a modern household uses a septic system. But, the Bubbler Blend bacteria do best when care is given in what you put in your septic system. Reports of toxic conditions are so rare with the System that we have only five reported over five years. We easily restored the systems to full function. (USA Report) Q: What kind of objects can I flush down the toilet? A good rule to follow when in doubt about putting something in your septic system is, If you won t put it in your mouth and swallow it, don t put it in your septic system. There are household products we use in our modern homes that we won t put in our mouths to be swallowed but will not typically harm a septic system with a Septic Boss unit installed. The following guidelines should be followed after the installation of the Septic Boss System. These guidelines are within the normal suggested septic system guidelines for your standard conventional septic system. Q: Can the bubbler system be clogged? A: The Septic Boss can be damaged or clogged by non-biodegradable items or materials that enter the septic system, Including but not limited to personal latex products, rubber gloves, any items made of rubber, latex, plastics or metals, sand or Soil from non water tight septic tanks, etc. It is important to keep such items out of the septic system.

22 Electron Road Q: What happens when there is load shedding, power outage? A: Should there be a power outage of 4 to 6 days where the air pump is not working, the Bubbler Blend bacteria will survive without problems. Should the power remain out for a longer periods, contacts your Certified Installer or Maintenance Inspector for advice? Date: Contract Number: Owner s Name: MAINTENANCE JOB CARD OWNER INFORMATION Blackheath Western Cape South Africa Address: Installation Address (if different): Q: what happens when I go on holiday and the house is unattended? A: If you leave your house unoccupied while on vacation, or for any extended period up to two months, or the Septic Boss installation is in a septic tank serving a vacation home that is periodically occupied during a vacation season, leave the air pump operating. The compost in the bacteria filter will retain an active community of Bubbler Blend bacteria for several months when the house is unoccupied. Upon your return and re-use of the septic system, the Bubbler Blend bacteria will begin to rapidly multiply, remove the bacteria filter, re-colonize the Septic Boss and the Septic Boss will function as before. When a vacation home is closed up after the vacation season, unplug the air pump. When you start to use the vacation home the next season, get a new bacteria filter, replace it and plug in the air pump. The Septic Boss will restart without additional oversight. 11 Wastewater & Sewage Treatment Converting current or new septic tanks into: Water Efficiency Systems What is Bubbler/sanitation concept? The Principle is that naturally occurring micro-organisms as opposed to chemical process are selected as a biological additive to the primary tank. The Biological process occurring in the primary tank converts raw sewage into usable filtered grey water, ready for re-use in the toilet cistern or landfill. The workhorse in the system is the Multiple Bacteria Airlift (MBA) which works within the bacterial genus Bacillus. When to Consider a Bubbler system? If you want to Save water Re-use water Eliminate the pumping out of your septic tank Eliminate any odours in and around your septic system Replace a failed septic system. Create irrigation and/or drain field. Have minimum maintenance requirements. when you experience bio mat problems when you want self-sustainable wastewater treatment solution (recycles treated water and reuse for flushing) when your soil quality is not appropriate for a septic system ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY LOW MAINTENANCE How does the system work? 1.Influent flow into primary chamber 2.Solids float on top of the water base 3.Aeration occurs via the Septic Boss 4.Aerobic bacteria breakdown of the solids to very fine sludge 5.Water mixture with sludge filters through Septic Boss 6.Filtration via Septic Boss causes the sludge to come in contact with Bubbler Bacteria Blend that breakdown the sludge even more (split water and solids) 7.The constant flow within the primary chamber, separate the solids (drifting on top) from the sludge (sitting on the bottom) leaving the center portion of the primary tank with clean water 8.Clean water now flow via the vertical brush filter into the secondary tank. From the secondary tank the water flows through our specially designed Ducting Filter where it s treated again. 9.Treated water can now be released or distributed. Where can Bubbler be installed? Rural Areas, because of the difficulty in installing Water-borne sewerage due to topographic factors Rural Schools, which lack infrastructure Farming Communities for the same reason Camp sites including holiday sites Densely populated informal settlements Special Events Disaster Managed Areas Upmarket Housing 1400L BUBBLER SYSTEM The 1400L Bubbler System services 8-12 people per day. In the design of the glow pattern it is critical that the Bacteria is protected to ensure that it can grow and multiply to achieve its goal. The flow pattern consists of creating an aerobic condition to maximize the aerobic breakdown of solids and providing sufficient aeration to maximize the biological breakdown of ammonia in the water. This transfer of landfill water via filter system ensures efficient filtration in key areas which assist the biological processes. In addition to the above, we incorporate a recycle pump which adds a oxygen diffuser to maximize dissolved oxygen in the system. 2200L BUBBLER SYSTEM The 2200L Bubbler System services people per day.
