2 Foreword The Center for Creativity and Sustainability Study and Consultancy (CCS) is a not-forprofit organization specialized in providing services of R&D, consultancy, capacity building and applications of creative and sustainable solutions and development models to promote Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in Vietnam. CCS was established in 2013 to continue and sustain the successes and results of SPIN project, within the framework of the EU SWITCH-Asia program, in the field of sustainable product innnovation ( ). CCS s official office is located at 6 Lane 255 Cau Giay Street, Ha Noi, Vietnam. The Center s staff bring with them expertise and years of experience in different fields, from mechanics, energy, agriculture, economy to product design. Currently, CCS is supporting three social enterprises which also represent our three main fields of activities: i-nature (Zerowaste Agriculture); Green Street (Sustainable products); and Elegance (Renewable energy and Clean technologies). We would like to share with our honourable partners and donors the CCS Activities Summary Report for Quarter 4/2017, which includes the following contents: 1. 3 CENTER FOR CREATIVITY & SUSTAINABILITY STUDY & CONSULTANCY Add: no. 6, Lane 255, Cau Giay str., Ha Noi Tel: Website: 1.CCS successfully tested industrial continuous gasifiers On October 9th, 2017, the continuous biomass gasification device designed, researched and manufactured by CCS was put into practical testing. The produced gas is fed to the burner, providing heat to the boiler. The continuous gasification device system feeding heat for boiler The gasification device operated according to the expectations of the research team. The initial result shows that the device is able to operating continuously for 4 hours during the test, producing good quality gas, very fast evaporation time, easy to control the equipment capacity according to user demand on the heat of the boiler. This is a great success for the gasification technology R&D team in particular and for CCS in general, as this technology not only addresses the problem of energy costs but also is a sustainable solution to environmental and social issues for small and medium enterprises. In the upcoming time, this gasification device will be used more frequently. CCS will continue to sample, test and finalize the design, preparing for the next phase: industrial design and commercial product manufacturing. CCS Quarterly Activities Summary 3

Eco-Innovation Seminar Toward Sustainable Development For Paper / Pulp And Beverages Industry Enterprises The seminar was held in November 9th, 2017 in Center for Women and Development- No. 20 Thuy Khue, Tay Ho, with the participation of associations, enterprises in the industry and other units. The main objective of the seminar was to introduce the task of Research and pilot implementation of the model for the enterprises of paper / pulp and beverage industry. Eco-Innovation tools was also introduced to help enterprises of paper/pulp and beverage industry innovate their strategies, business models, achieve sustainable profitability and reduce impacts on the environment. Seminar introducing Eco-Innovation to paper/ pulp and beverage enterprises The seminar also raised the awareness of pulp and paper companies and related agencies on Eco-Innovation thinking and the economic, social and environmental benefits that the methodology provided to the enterprises; raising awareness of enterprises about Eco-Innovation. The main objective of the seminar was to introduce the task of Research and pilot implementation of the model for the enterprises of paper / pulp and beverage industry. Green Street Participated In Hanoi European Environmental Exhibition Green Street s booth Green Street was honored to be one of 20 booths in the projects implemented by the European Union to introduce safe and sustainable food for consumers. In October 14, at Ly Thai To Flower Garden, the European Union delegations in cooperation with the German Embassy in Vietnam held the exhibition of European diplomatic environment. The event was held to raise awareness of the people, and especially younger generations about the negative impact of climate change to the environment. European environmental exhibition in Hanoi In the upcoming time, the European Union suggests to carry out a energy conversion project in Vietnam which aims to meet the electricity consumtion needs of poor households in Hanoi. The project will also assist the Ministry of Industry and Trade to form new policies to ensure better energy consumtion and encourage the people toward renewable energy. Tu Tay Lam Het - a new reliable partner Tu Tay Lam Het products are very diverse Recently, Green Street has welcomed Tu Tay Lam Het- a Vietnambased natural handmade cosmetics manufacturer and retailer, established in With the top priority is to bring customers the most sustainable and authentic products, Hang Xanh has chosen Tu Tay Lam Het Cosmetic as a reliable partner. Tu Tay Lam Het booth Tu Tay Lam Het has been successful in Vietnamese market with diverse natural origin products such as exfoliating cream, mask, lipstick, lotions and cleanser. Hang Xanh hopes that with this partnership, the products will become more diverse and able to serve more customers. Cricket s Land- First Business Activities i-nature s aim is to bring to customers the safety, high nutrition, best quality of service organic products. Moreover, in the near future, i-nature also bring customers the true look on the agriculture life and direct daily production activities of Cricket s Land. Recently, the weather is ideal for vegetation in Cricket s Land farm. This is an important factor not only in growing vegetables and fruits but also in supporting the construction of the farm s landscape. Alongside that, our livestock activities in the last months of this year are also accelerated. Specifically, Animal lodging for chickens, pigs, ducks and Muscovy ducks have come into operation. The development of the farm, both in terms of cultivation and animal husbandry, facilitates the first business activities, especially in customer accessing. Coming to Cricket s Land, a number of our customers have been visiting our farm to experience the richness here. At the same time, customers have been witnessing the agronomic process, choosing directly agricultural products for trial use, and then deciding themselves to rent farmland for business or for their family consumption. Redworms - The Lush Nutrition Resource For Organic Agriculture Redworms, which scientific name was Perionyx excavates, belongs to the fauna worm category. They can be found in rich decaying organic environment. In agriculture, Redworms are considered as nutrient source as they can be made into products such as redworms compost, redworms tea, redworms meal, etc. which are good for both farming and ranching. Redworms compost and worm tea are rich and nourishing natural organic resource that does not contain pathogens and capable of fighting against pests and diseases. They are used regularly for growing vegetables, tea, industrial plants, fruit plants, etc. especially in organic agriculture. With a crude protein content of 50 to 70% of the body s dry weight, the protein content of redworms is equivalent to that of fish meal, which is commonly used in animal feeds and aquaculture. Redworms meal contains 12 types of amino acids and many vitamins, minerals needed for cattle, poultry and seafood. Especially redworms meal have natural growth hormones that are not in the fish meal. Redworms meal does not have the smell of fish and fish oil appetize animals, and it also can be preserved longer than fish meal. With many precious properties, redworms can participate as an active component in sustainable and environmentally friendly organic farming chains that can be easily deployed in every area, including in remote and mountainous areas. Applying herbs in cattle and poultry raising in cricket s land Today, the abuse of antibiotics and antibiotic residues in livestock products such as meat, poultry, seafood... is the matter that concerns the consumers. Herbs will be added to the diet of livestock twice a week and depending on the type of animal will be used appropriate herbs to enhance their natural resistance. Muscovy ducks in the Cricket s Land farm To deal with this issue, using herbs in animal husbandry is considered to be a viable solution to provide consumers with quality products with health benefits and gaining their trust. As one part of the zero-waste closedloop organic agriculture farming model, raising cattle and poultry in the organic way using herbs to prevent diseases is being applied in Cricket s Land farm. Familiar plants with antimicrobial activities has been used by people for a long time. In the Cricket s Land, there are diversity of herbs being used: onions, ginger, turmeric, guava leaves, apricot, Gleditsia, holy basil... Chicken are fed with natural food In addition to herbal supplements in the diet, cattle and poultry are provided with comfortable living environment, clean bedding using bio pads, natural foods diet (corn meal, rice bran, soybean meal, fish, vegetables, etc.) with supplement probiotics to strengthen their digestive system and resistance. CCS submitted final report for Lower Mekong Initiative project In the last days of 2017, Center for Creativity, Sustainability Study and Consultancy (CCS) has promptly completed final project report and financial report for the Piloting the application of CCS advanced biomass gasifiers and the Product-Service System for the promotion of equitable, sustainable, and inclusive growth in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia project. The project is in the framework of Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI) funded by US Government via the US Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. The reports provide final results of the project implementation, difficulties and lessons learned from this project. The project started in July 2016 and would be implemented in the total duration of 12 months. CCS is responsible for the management and implementation of this project in Dinh Hoa district, Thai Nguyen Province, together with the two other local partners include the Population, Environment and Development Center (PED) and the Women Union of Dinh Hoa. In general, the project is implemented in accordance with the schedule and sticking to the objectives; however, there are some changes and adjustments in the process of project implementation due to both objective and subjective factors in order to be more suitable with the implementation situation and maximum use of the project s resources, including the number of residential gasifiers increased to 256 stoves compared with the initial registration number in the project document is 150 gasifiers; or 04 gasifier sample models used in the project (including 01 CCS model and 03 PED improved stove models) than originally planned with only one sample gasifier. In the future, CCS hopes for supports to continue to promote the results that the project has implemented in Thai Nguyen to contribute to the innovation process for sustainable development in Vietnam, as the mission of CCS has set.
