GENERAL INFORMATION Province : Sulawesi Selatan Regency : Bulukumba District : Kindang Village : Kindang Site / Sub-village : Kahaya River : Balantiyeng Gross Head : 17.5 m Estimate Design Discharge : 400 l/s Hydraulic Potential Power : kw Estimate Electrical Power : kw 2. SITE DESCRIPTION 2.1. Location Kahaya sub-village is one of the potential site for a Micro Hydropower (MHP) implementation. Kahaya sub-village is part of Kindang village, Kindang district, Bulukumba regency, Sulawesi Selatan province. It is located geographically at S '03 and E '03. Kindang village north border is Batu Belerang village (Sinjai regency), Borong Rapoa village at the southern side, forest and mount Lampo Batang at the western side and Tamaona village at the eastern side. which services route among Bulukumba - Kindang - Kahaya. From Kindang (Kahaya), the MHP scheme location (power house) could be reached by walk in 615 minutes (for more detail, see Table 1.) 2.3. Topographic and Geological Condition The MHP scheme will uses water from Balantiyeng river. The river located on the north of Kahaya sub-village. From the MHP scheme Table 1. Accessibility Kahaya sub-village located about 45 km to the north of Bulukumba, Bulukumba regency, Sulawesi Selatan Province. The location could be reach by four wheel vehicle such Kijang or motorcycle in about 4.5 hours from Bulukumba, or by a public transportation (buses, rented cars) location (power house) the river goes to the southeast direction. Topographic conditions along the river are moderate slope, while materials around the river are rock, and gravelly. Detail topographic map could be seen in Annex 3.

SOCIO - ECONOMIC CONDITION Village settlement in Kahaya sub-village are spread, not concentrated. There is an adequate distance between every small group from one to another. Almost the villagers are farmers. Their main crops are coffee, and tobaccos. They still cultivate their land in traditional way, without any modern agriculture know-how. According to the agricultural potential in the area, Kahaya are quite prospective to develop further. There are existing public facilities such as elementary school, and mosque, no such a community organization existed in Kahaya. Table 2. POTENTIAL ENERGY SOURCES AND ELECTRIFICATION CONDITION The villages around the MHP scheme has not been electrified and will not get electricity from PLN grid, at least in the recent PLN Plan. The nearest PLN electricity grid is about 4.5 km. Existing main energy sources for villagers there are kerosene, oil, and a small photovoltaic (solar cell) power plant for lighting and others. The village around MHP scheme location economically have many potential, especially in agriculture, and horticulture sectors. However, related production facilities are still insufficient, there are some possibilities such as: storage facility, and coffee grinding. MHP development is expected giving valuable support to increase community economics quality apart from lighting need. As shown at Table 2, the number of households which will electrified by MHP scheme at Kahaya sub-village are 6150 households. Based on empiric data of electrification project using MHP, the estimate electricity need or electrical power need assumption is about 200 watt per house. Including the electricity need for several public facilities, then total MHP Capacity expected for Kahaya sub-village is about kw. HYDRO-POWER POTENTIAL According to topographic measurement, water from Balantiyeng river will be flowed through intake then to headrace which the length is about 353 m (see detailed site plan at Annex 4). For this MHP scheme, measured gross head is about 17.5 m and estimated penstock length is about 80 m. Detail penstock profile is shown at Annex 5. Estimated minimum power electricity need in Ka - -haya sub-village and the surrounding area is about kw. To fulfil this requirement, the MHP discharge have to be about 400 l/s with the estimate net head 17 m, with this calculation the MHP scheme could generate electricity power about kw and still have reserved power about 3.59 kw (see detail calculation at Table 4.). Actual discharge measured of Balantiyeng River is 6736 liter/second. Recorded discharge data or annual discharge are not available and discharge measurement done not in the driest month, therefore maximum discharge in the dry season estimated about 400 l/s. However, design discharge has to be determined in detail and more accurate, considering all factor, and catchment area when a further feasibility study for this MHP 6. TRANSMISSION LINE Figure 2 Measuring flow (discharge) at Balantiyeng river; Kahaya subvillage, Kindang. The village settlement surrounding the MHP scheme is spread and in small groups which have significant distance from each other. Main transmission line to those sub-villages, as shown in Table 2, is about 2.95 km length. The transmission line design of Kahaya subvillage and the surrounding area is shown in Annex 6.
