3 Technical Data Sheet CH118 Water Repellent, Non-melting, Electrically Insulating Silicone Grease Introduction CH118 is water-repellent, work-stable, non-melting, tasteless and odourless silicone grease for electrical insulation purposes; it may also be used for potable water supplies. Key Features Excellent work stability Can be used from -50ºC to +200ºC Work stable after 24 hours at 200ºC Non-melting Good low load lubrication Low bleed and weight loss Widely approved (see below) Excellent dielectric properties Good water repellence Non-corrosive to metals Low level of toxicity Typical Applications It is a very versatile grease that has been used successfully in many applications such as: - Sealing electrical systems against water ingress - Prevention of corona discharge - Protection of insulation against corona discharge - Potting of small electronic components - Lubrication of electric cables through conduits - Screw threads lubrication to prevent sticking and corrosion - Packing of mineral fibre glands to prevent sticking - Laboratory stop-cock lubrication - Vacuum sealing of ground glass joints Approvals CH118 is approved to U.K. Ministry of Defence Standard (JSD XG-250, NATO S-736) It is designed to meet U.S. Military Specification MIL-S- 8660B The Water Regulations Advisory Scheme has approved SG M494 to BS 6920, for use in contact with hot (85ºC)and cold potable (drinking) water. directory ref: Effect on Materials CH118 has little effect on metals and most plastics. It may, after prolonged contact with plasticised rubbers and plastics, have a slight effect due to plasticiser migration. General Characteristics The following are typical values for the product and should not be taken as specification limits.
