4 FIVE PRIORITY PROGRAMS Restoration of Forest and Protected Areas Adaptation to Climate Change and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources Conservation of Coastal and Marine Resources Good and Effective Governance in Environmental Protection Social Justice in Land Titling

5 FOREST MANAGEMENT BUREAU Expand National Greening Program to reforest an additional 1.2 million ha of denuded area ( ) and provide sustainable livelihood to communities Strengthen protection of forest cover, including plantations established under earlier reforestation programs that total about 8.5 million ha (56% of area classified as forestland or timberland) Formulate new policies and strategies for effective implementation of NGP Rehabilitate critical watersheds

6 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT BUREAU Collaborate with LGUS in implementing Ecological Solid Waste Management (close open dumps, finalize SWM plans) Stricter monitoring of air and water emissions from industries Pursue publication of industrial (air and water) emissions results for increased public awareness Encourage new technologies to minimize pollution (e.g., waste-to-energy and wastewater treatment facilities) Collaborate with LLDA, MBCO and PRRC to cleanup Laguna Bay, Pasig River, Manila Bay Adopt-an-Esteros nationwide

7 MINES AND GEOSCIENCES BUREAU Review existing Mineral Production Sharing Agreements Strengthen Monitoring and Evaluation of all ongoing mining operations Conduct immediate investigation and imposition of appropriate penalties and sanctions on violations committed Ensure immediate implementation of remediation/rehabilitation of adverse effects and damages, including prompt assessment and payment of compensation to affected individuals by the concerned mining companies Require companies to undertake progressive rehabilitation and strengthen their Corporate Social Responsibility

8 LAND MANAGEMENT BUREAU Further streamline the processing of titling procedures. Adopt systems and safeguards to ensure no conflicts and overlaps in the issuance of titles and patents Explore possibility of deputizing LGUs to undertake land investigation to fast track applications

9 BIODIVERSITY MANAGEMENT BUREAU Strengthen marine protected areas networks through the coastal and marine ecosystems rehabilitation program Promote the development of biodiversityfriendly and social enterprises to wean fisherfolks away from destructive fishing practices Promote and develop ecotourism in 210 protected areas declared under the NIPAS Embark on initiatives towards the development of our genetic resources within our protected areas, for wealth creation.

10 ECOSYSTEM RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT Strengthen research and development to identify new technologies for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation BUREAU To increase the adaptive capacity and resilience of our ecosystems, we will ensure that climate change and disaster risk reduction and management are mainstreamed in our plans, programs and policies.

11 Outcomes at the end of administration Quality of the environment that meets the global standards for Clean Air, Clean Water, and Solid Waste Management A community resilient to the effects of climate change through NGP and new adaptive technologies

12 Outcomes at the end of administration Mined out areas are rehabilitated, Safe mining operations are strictly observed, and Host communities benefit from the mining operations All legal occupants are provided with appropriate tenure instruments and all residential lots are issued free patents.

13 Outcomes at the end of administration At least 10% increase in forest cover while providing livelihood opportunities and tenurial instruments to host communities.
