3 Complementary expertise from two industry leaders The enhanced heat transfer solutions developed by Technip and Wieland provide improved energy efficiency and substantial savings to Ethylene and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants. Heat exchange is a pivotal unit operation in most industrial processes: refining, ethylene, gas treatment and liquefaction to name a few. The most frequently encountered technologies are shell-and-tube, air cooled and miscellaneous compact heat exchangers. Technip-Wieland's enhanced heat transfer solutions for shell-and-tube technology provide substantial savings and environmental benefits through: reduced investment and operating costs higher productivity and improved energy efficiency by either reducing the size of the units or the temperature approach and/or increasing its thermal performance reduced CO 2 emissions An agreement based on long-term collaboration and R&D efforts In November 2007, Technip and Wieland entered into a formal agreement to jointly market innovative heat exchangers. This agreement followed 10 years of collaboration between these two groups to qualify dual enhanced tubes with the aim of becoming a hydrocarbon processing industry standard especially for large shell-andtube heat exchangers for grassroots LNG and ethylene plants. Further work packages concentrated on enhanced tubeside heat transfer and pressure drop performance in single-phase gas and liquid services as well as two-phase / condensation. This created a solid design basis allowing compact and efficient enhanced heat exchanger designs. More than 50 large heat exchangers in operation This long-term collaborative effort together with industrial references established since 2000 in the petrochemical and LNG industries contributes to making Technip-Wieland heat exchangers standard equipment in large capacity ethylene and LNG plants. In addition, more than 50 heat exchangers are under construction for Technip or Third Party Projects. For Third Party Projects heat exchangers are based on Technip design. Two product lines Technip and Wieland offer two main products: GEWA-PB enhanced boiling tubes GEWA-KS enhanced condensing tubes Starting in 1996, a joint academia-industry R&D program funded by the European Union was formed establishing heat transfer and thermal design information for enhanced horizontal shellside nucleate boiling with light hydrocarbons, primarily propane. 4 Ethylene production The technology we have developed contributes to energy and CO 2 emission reduction in both boiling and condensing applications. Minimising energy consumption is a goal that our Clients are continually pursuing. In Ethylene mega-crackers, reductions in energy consumption have so far been obtained through better furnace thermal efficiency and reduced compression power per tonne of ethylene that in turn affects steam demand. Technip-Wieland s enhanced heat exchangers allow further reduction in energy consumption and CO 2 emissions. Boiling & condensing applications Applications using GEWA-KS tubes GEWA-PB Deethaniser condenser C2 splitter condenser Depropaniser condenser C2 splitter reboiler Ethane vaporiser Ethylene refrigerant condenser GEWA-KS C3 splitter condenser Propylene / Propane condenser Cost-savings Compared to solutions with traditional plain and lowfinned tubes, Technip-Wieland products contribute to a clear cost saving in the cost of an Ethylene cracker. 5 LNG production The enhanced performance of our exchangers provides end Clients with increased LNG production for given refrigerant compression power. Increasing LNG production per unit of refrigerant compression power has been a permanent goal of LNG plant developers. Technip-Wieland s enhanced heat exchangers for propane evaporation and condensation allow further increases in LNG production, or alternatively lower power consumption and CO 2 emissions. Ideal for grassroots LNG plants Propane refrigerant cycle Propane evaporators plot plan comparison Propane evaporators cost comparison Up to 3.5 % in combination with GEWA- KS tubes (water cooled condenser) Considering LNG plant debottlenecking? Change-out of a plain or low-finned tube bundle for GEWA-PB tubes in an existing plant will increase LNG production with no change in power consumption. GEWA-KS tubes, in a water cooled condenser, can bring further gains. Enhanced heat transfer solutions 5

6 GEWA-KS tubes GEWA-KS finned tubes with both externally and internally enhanced surfaces are used in external condensing applications such as air-conditioning and refrigeration as well as the hydrocarbon processing industry. Common to all applications are the advantages of more compact, cost effective and lighter heat exchange equipment. Beyond this, system improvements can be achieved with savings regarding refrigerant and process fluid charges as well as piping racks, support structures and foundations. 7 GEWA-PB tubes GEWA-PB enhanced tubes have an external nucleate boiling structure and an internal corrugated spiral fin structure. GEWA-PB has been developed especially for the process industries, for boiling service outside horizontal tubes. Primary applications are clean processes such as in LNG and Olefin plants, as well as refinery light-end sections, C2 and C3 refrigeration systems. The GEWA-PB tube promotes very high thermal efficiency due to special enhanced surfaces, and is suitable for boiling at small temperature differences where standard tubes are no longer applicable. Substantial benefits have been identified with regards to increased production of LNG or savings in tube length and total heat exchanger weight. Temperature approach A cold-end temperature approach of 2 C (instead of 3 C with low-finned tubes) leads to increased LNG production.
