Full Depth Reclamation Dry grinding is a practical way to rehabilitate pavements. Incorporation of RAP into the aggregate base course provides improved structural integrity, increases reliability and preserves the original investment in the roadway.

Full depth reclamation is an effective pavement rehabilitation treatment on highly distressed roads needing deep repairs.

Keys to Success 1.Reclaimed material shall be mixed with ABC Class 6 in the widened sections and processed across the entire roadway section. 2.Water shall be injected into the mix through the drum and thoroughly mixed into the full depth reclamation process to obtain moisture content. 3.Contractor required to incorporate additional ABC Class 6 into the processed material to provide a minimum of 10 inches as needed to meet final grade.

Benefits of FDR Widening and Flattening

Benefits of FDR Drainage Improvements

Benefits of FDR Drainage improvements Capture subsurface drainage

Benefits of FDR Balance Earthwork

Environmental Benefits Reuse/continued use of initial roadway investment

Decreased Use of Materials 100% Recyclable Decreases required quantity of crushed aggregates from pits Decreases extraction of rock from the earth Decreases asphalt cement binder required to construct roads Saves $15-25 per ton depending upon haul distances $

Where do we go from here?

Asphalt Emulsion Full Depth Reclamation (AEFDR) is an asphalt pavement rehabilitation process that recycles and rejuvenates the existing pavement surface and subgrade, providing an improved structure for the final paved surface.

Keys to AEFDR Success 1.AEFDR is a separate process. 2.Asphalt emulsion shall be added in the drum of the reclaimer equipment. 3.Emulsion shall be thoroughly mixed into the reclaimed material for a thickness of not less than 6 inches across the entire roadway.

What do we gain? FDR = 0.15 structural coefficient AEFDR = 0.25 structural coefficient

AEFDR is a cost effective pavement rehabilitation technology that could enhance available options for treating fatigued pavements and implement practical pavement
