3 Heating digesters with temperature ramps Instrument nts for wet digestions of liquid or solid samples projected according to GLP Good Laboratory Practices. The range from room temperatu ure to 450 C is able to satisfy all the requireme ents for standard and Kjedahl digestions. The analysed sample is up to 15 ml for liquid or 5 g for solids. The digestion time varies according to the treated material and to the used methods. The Velp digesters allow a work in reproduci ible conditions, with a full safety, saving chemicals, work and space in comparison to the traditional methods. It is possible to remove the evolved fumes using specific accessories without the use of a fume hood. The structure of the digesters is manufactured from stainless steel and is protected by a special resin and paints giving an high resistance to chemicals and mechanical corrosion. The heating block holding the test tubes allows an optimal distribution of heat to all the selected temperatures. Its location within the instrument avoids that in case of liquid spillages these will reach and damage internal parts. The temperature of the heating block is controlled by dedicated electronics with a microprocessor. The temperature probe does not require a calibration which is performed by the electronics at each turning up. This allows a very good precision and repetability of test. It is possible to upgrade the software of new version by using a personal computer for the innovative electronics with microprocessor. It is possible to select up to 20 work programs. For each work program it is possible to select up to four temperatures with the corresponding durations. According to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) it is possible to send the data related to a performed test to a printer or to a personal computer for their storage. Important In digestions evolving fumes, acid gases and corrosive (eg. Kjeldahl) we suggest the use of Velp systems for sucking and neutralizing them: recirculating water pump type JP (code ), scrubber type SMS (code ) Suitable for 67

6 Specifications Air flow max: Flow regulation: Residual pressure with a water temperature in the tank=15 C: 35 l/min 0 35 l/min 35 mm/hg 160 W 8.5 kg Advantages Automatism and optimization of the sucking power Strongly reduced water consumption in comparison to water jet pumps connected to tap Possibility of avoiding emission into the atmosphere of gaseous pollutants or polluted waters into drainages Independent from tap water contingencies like with low water availability or low pressure Instruments Volts Hertz Recirculating water pump for fumes aspiration Innovative recirculating water pump that allows to select two different time related programs for DK 6 or DK 20 which grant an optimal sucking power related to the phases of digestion and to the number of the samples of the digestor connected to the pump. The use of water jet pumps connected to tap is often impeded by a lack of pressure or by the very high water consumption. Velp s unit is composed by a structure made in ABS, extremely resistant to chemical corrosion, and by a tank where the introduced water is continuously recirculated, determining the saving of water. The type and quality of the used materials make the instrument noiseless with a long useful life, granting a very high air flow capacity, up to 35 l/min. Particular technical shrewdness like the indicator of level for the control of water, the stopcock for the drainage and the comfortable handles for the movement of the equipment, facilitate the operator in the use. When coupled to a Velp Scrubber type SMS (code ), it allows a very effective removal of fumes evolved during acid mineralization. 7 Specifications Epoxy painted inox structure studied and tested in order to give to the instrument an excellent resistance to attacks from chemicals agents Capacious containers for the neutralization solution and for the condensate collection Advantages A highly efficient neutralization, due to the optimized gas-liquid contact Can be used for both basic and acid neutralization The apparatus is safe and practical to use. Disposal of condensates, control and replacement of neutralizing solutions are very simple 3.5 kg Scrubber The SMS unit is designed for the neutralization of toxic, noxious and corrosive fumes coming from oxidative mineralizations or other processes. The system is supplied at a two stage configuration: condensation neutralization The unit has a variety of applications, from the Kjeldahl method to acid or basic gases control and permits the correct disposal of polluting substances, avoiding dangerous emissions to the workplace and to the environment. The unit grants its maximum efficiency if connected to Velp recirculating water vacuum pump (code ). 8 UDK 126D specifications Epoxy painted stainless steel structure studied and tested in order to give to the instrument an excellent resistance to the attack of chemical and mechanical agents and to corrosion in general Short distillation time Alkali addition, when required, in closed system No transfer of samples Compact unit Conical joint for holding different size distillation tubes, both in diameter and length Reproducibility: ±1% 2100 W 23 kg About Kjeldahl Steam distillation is applied in laboratories for the fractionation of water insoluble liquids or solids according to Dalton s law of partial pressures in a gas mixture. It is also used for the stripping of chemicals from mixtures or solutions after displacement of ionic equilibria by adding acids or bases, as in the well known Kjeldahl s method for total Nitrogen determination. The method takes its name from the Danish chemist that conceived it more than a century ago. The Kjeldahl method is still the most used for determining Nitrogen and protein contents in foods and feeds (official methods). This is simply due to its precision and reproducibility. From its first setting-up many improvements were introduced aimed at reducing energy consumption, space requirement and sample weight.
