1 SiSWA International Workshop on Municipal Waste Management

2 Greetings. We would like to kindly invite you to attend the International Workshop on Municipal Waste Management, which will be held at RCERO Snaga Ljubljana, from May 29 to 31, The International workshop is organized by the Slovenian Solid Waste Association, International Solid Waste Association, Snaga Ljubljana, EXPRA and other participants of the program. Slovenia, being one of the more developed countries, when it comes to the topic of waste management, with its highly developed net of waste management centers and high rate of separately collected waste has a lot of experience, that can be shared with other countries in the region. As landfilling is slowly becoming a less preferred option of disposal for waste management in EU, we would like to touch the future practices, that will allow us to handle our waste in a more environmental and friendly way. We would like develop topics and come with answers to questions linked to Is Waste to Energy really a form of most safe and reliable waste management?, Is the concept of Zero waste really possible?, What is the situation in Slovenia; pros and cons of our current system of waste management?. We hope to make the event as interesting and useful as possible, we plan to achieve this by sharing the experience that we accumulated over the years. Specially those, coming from economically developing countries, can learn from first hand, the positive effects of developed waste management network and steady operation of landfill on one side, but also what can be expected and is seen as the negative effect, once you reach a certain level of development. On my behalf, I am looking forward to meeting you all in Ljubljana, where we hope to host another successful ISWA/SiSWA event, Jernej S. Kosmač SiSWA general manager
