3 Redland is a brand of the worldwide Monier Group. With operations in 46 countries and over 200 production sites, Monier is the leading worldwide supplier of pitched roofing materials. Our goal is to deliver high-quality roofing solutions that perfectly meet our customers expectations. Harnessing solar energy is one of the most attractive and sustainable means of generating zero carbon, renewable energy for use in buildings. A pitched roof is the ideal surface for solar energy collection for heat and electricity generation. Why Redland? In establishing its pre-eminent position in renewables for the UK roofing industry, Redland is drawing on the roofing know how and expertise gathered from over 90 years as the industry leader. Throughout its history, Redland has developed many innovative solutions, including the first UK roof-integrated photovoltaic (PV) systems launched in 1997 and, in 2008, a roof integrated solar thermal offer. In 2010, Redland introduced a second-generation fully integrated PV tile solution. Redland s range of tiles, slates, renewable energy systems, fittings and accessories, combined with market-leading technical support services, enable us to deliver total pitched roofing solutions you can rely on. The Redland Photovoltaic range includes two product lines: Redland Solar PV Tiles, designed for optimal aesthetics and Redland On-Top, cost effective PV systems for all roof installations. As with all Redland innovations, both solutions have been designed for ease of installation as well as performance. They have been tested to ensure they cope with the specific weather conditions of the UK climate - remaining weathertight in the highest wind speeds in Europe and prolonged spells of rain. Different from other On-Top systems The UK construction industry has been aware for some time that many solar products currently installed in the UK are leading to customer complaints as a result of roof leakage and poor fixing performance under high wind. Many of these products were designed for Germany or other European countries that have completely different roof constructions and weather conditions to those found in the UK. For example, the average rafter width in Germany ranges from mm. The rafters used in the UK are about half the size being only 35-50mm wide. Different fixings are required to accommodate the different rafter width: German products are not appropriate and don t comply with British and Eurocode standards for structural timber. To overcome these issues, Redland worked from day one to develop an On-Top System that is not only compatible with UK-sized rafters, but is also designed to cope with all that the UK weather can throw at it, including some of the most severe wind-driven rain in Europe. After extensive tests, Redland has launched a durable and secure system suitable for most pitched roofs in the UK. ON-TOP PV SYSTEM 3

5 Redland cost effective PV system This system is compatible with most pitched roofing products, including plain tiles, natural slates and large format interlocking tiles. Contact Redland Technical Solutions Hotline for confirmation if using roof tiles not supplied by Redland. The Redland On-Top PV System has been designed and tested for UK roof construction, with a minimum rafter width of 35mm. It is therefore compatible with most UK roofs, requiring no alterations to the existing roof structure, making it a solution for both new build and installing PV onto existing properties. 6 PV MODULE SPECIFICATION The Redland On-Top System uses PV modules made by Conergy in Germany. There is a choice of two modules: a mono-crystalline 180Wp module and a polycrystalline 220Wp module. The power output of both is guaranteed for 25 years by the module manufacturer. 7 SYSTEM PERFORMANCE The Redland On-Top PV System consists of a number of interconnected PV modules designed to be mounted on the roof of a building. The system includes PV modules, mounting system, fixings, cables and inverter. The PV mounting systems have been designed by Redland to suit different roof types. The size and layout of the Redland On-Top PV System is flexible and can be adapted to suit the dimensions of your roof or your electricity requirement. The tables below show performance and expected annual financial savings, based on the 1/4/ /03/2012 FIT Value for retrofit PV systems, along with DEFRA recommended value on CO 2 savings. These calculations are based on 50% of the electricity generated being used on-site with the remaining 50% being sold to the utilities companies, and are for a system with a 30 degree pitch roof, southerly oriented, with little or no shading. For comparison purposes, the average electricity energy requirement of a four person household is 3,300 kwh a year. This value excludes the energy required for hot water and space heating. PV microgenerators benefit from a fixed rate payment for each unit of electricity generated (kwh), called FIT Generation Tariff. In addition, PV microgenerators can use the energy they generate for free and sell the energy they don t use to their electricity supplier, for a minimum guaranteed rate called FIT Export Tariff. The Generation and Export Tariffs are both guaranteed for 25 years from the date the system is first registered. Generation and export tariffs are linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI) and FITs income for domestic properties generating electricity mainly for their own use are not liable for income tax. From April 2012, FITs will be subject to an annual degression rate, to be confirmed. For further details on the Feed-in Tariffs, visit the Energy Saving Trust website. ON-TOP PV SYSTEM 7
