2 OIL It keeps the world moving with modern transportation machines, heats our homes and makes industries run, makes hundreds of plastic materials available which have deeply modified modern industrial design. All our modern world is based on oil and petrochemical industries. These industries have greatly developed in the last century, with impressive plants built up all over the world in the vicinity of the main oil fields and a very high level technology employed to increase the process efficiency. One part of the modern technology which has been developed concerns the protection systems against the danger of fires, always impending when a flammable products is produced, transformed or shipped. In this field PNR has a long history of success in supplying the most advanced equipment for the protection of such industries, namely in the range of products employed to build fire fighting systems based on foam as an extinguishing agent. The PNR range of product covers today the whole requirement for foam based systems, be it the preparation of the foam solution by means of state of the art mixers or the use of the same by means of foam nozzles, lances, pourers and monitors. Our long experience, dating from 1968, in oil refineries, stocking depots and loading bays has allowed us to gradually develop and take to an high efficiency level the complete range of equipment needed to build a foam based system. All our products are designed in our engineering offices, and built in our factories or by sub-suppliers under our control. All of them are tested under actual conditions in our laboratories or testing grounds. All of them are supplied with proper documentation about technical performance. We believe cheap solutions are not a good choice where human lives and expensive plants are at risk and take pride in the always renewed confidence our customers show into our work.

3 MIXERS The first step in a foam fire fighting system is producing the right mix between water and foaming agent, the resulting product being commonly called foaming solution. The precise preparation of the right solution is of prime importance for the quality of the foam one system can produce, for example if the foam is too rich it will not run over the surface to be treated with sufficient speed and impair the fireguards action. Several factors can influence the performance of a mixer, the two most important being the exactness of the mixing ratio and the working range of the mixer, therefore we offer a rather wide range of equipment covering all requirements in the oil-petrochemical industries. Venturi mixers The first model used for making foaming solutions, has limits in terms of capacity. In fact a Venturi mixers has a very narrow performance range, and does not work properly at partial loads : for example a mixer feeding several lances will stop working when one or more lances (or their feeding lines) get clogged. The reason is the foaming agent is aspirated through the Venturi principle by the water flow, and the whole functioning depends unto the water velocity: if water velocity becomes lower the suction of foaming agent is impaired and the operation is not efficient. Their use is therefore limited to light portable equipment, normally feeding one only lance or foaming device. Automatic mixers This is a very well known type of large capacity mixer. Here the mix is realized inside a Venturi mixers but both water and foaming agent are supplied under pressure, and the pressure values are automatically compensated by an adjustment valve on top of the Venturi : this eliminates the inherent weakness of the simple Venturi mixers and allows to extend the working range to almost 1:10. The great flexibility of this automatic mixer makes it widely accepted in applications where for example a large number of monitors must be fed, totally or partially, contemporarily. Water motor mixers A further development which marks a fundamental step forward, allowing for extreme precision in the foaming solution production on large scale application like refineries. Here the required quantities of water and foam are pumped by two volumetric screw pumps with the undisputable advantage of exactly precise mixing ratio at any given capacity over a working range exceeding 1:10. The sturdiness and flexibility of this mixer and its extreme reliability are causing the complete replacement in the most important Italian refineries for the bladder tank systems which shows today unacceptable weak points when used to protect huge investments in a refinery ambient. Some of these machines are still in perfect shape after 15 years from commissioning date, while being tested regularly every month without any part having required replacement.

4 BLADDER TANKS Bladder tanks have dominated the industry for many years when it comes to foam solution preparation, they are a well known equipment based on the balanced pressure principle where a rubber bladder containing foam concentrate is squeezed by the surrounding water under pressure, and can then be injected into the main water stream. All our tanks, whether a vertical or horizontal design, can be delivered designed and built according to the most important codes, eg ASME code section VIII or EN Design can be arranged for working pressure of 12 Bar or higher, with test being performed at a pressure value higher than nominal (typical ratio 1.43 : I). All our tanks are fitted with an identification tag mentioning the most relevant details. Utmost care is taken in the manufacturing process, where circumferential and longitudinal body seams are machine welded. All surfaces, outside and inside are carefully ground smooth, while the outside are painted with an high epoxy/polyurethane paint (RAL 3000) and the inside can be coated with coal tar epoxy paint as an option. All tanks are fitted with a perforated PVC pipe along centre axis to allow for total discharge, And are manufactured with an inside volume 5% larger than nominal to allow for thermal expansion of concentrate. Both water inlet and water drain are protected by a wire mesh screen to prevent bladder blow out or entrapment of debris or foreign matter between bladder and tank shell. Vertical or horizontal tanks are provided respectively with four legs or two saddles, which leave easy access to water and foam agent valves and are always provided with suitable holes for anchorage to ground. Additional technical details are included as standard : All valves carry labels to show open/closed positions Lifting lugs are welded to tank shell and are provided with a 2 hole Our membranes have the body made out of Hypalon, while the connection to the tank shell is designed with flanged connection and made out of EPDM to assure higher resistance to pressure bursts All tanks are provided with an external level indicator in stainless steel

5 MONITORS Since 1968 Pnr is producing a full range of monitors which are continuously being improved in quality and performance. All the monitors in our range have the wet parts made completely out of high quality stainless steel, with a very high finish in internal surfaces which allows, when compared to other monitors with a cast body and a lower grade inside surface finish, a longer throw distance of approx 10%. Our monitors are delivered in any possible configuration, that is to say Manual operation Simple types fitted with hand lever Manual command, with one hand wheel for elevation Manual command with two hand wheels, for rotation and elevation Power operation Water turbine, with continuous movement and adjustable rotation angle Electrical motors, with 340 degrees horizontal rotation Hydraulic motors, with 360 degrees horizontal rotation Electric and hydraulic power monitors comply with ATEX norms, carry a CE mark and can be operated through joystick boxes from a distance of up to meters and may be supplied in explosion proof construction. Towers Towers shown in our catalogue are normally supplied with the catalogue dimensions, (specific designs are possible) and may have fixed or rotating upper platform. Surface finish normally painted with epoxy/ polyurethane coat or zinc plated when used in marine surroundings. Monitor devices A complete range kinds of lances and nozzles, for water and foam, as shown in our catalogue can be used to complete our monitors. All these devices are made out of high grade stainless steel or galvanized light alloys for a long lasting protection against weathering.

6 STATIONARY FOAM EQUIPMENT Our product range is too large to be shown in this leaflet, it includes however all necessary equipment for building stationary foam systems, for example for protection of large stocking tanks or truck loading bays. We offer therefore several types of foam nozzles, fixed foam lances and foam chambers, foam pourers in different models, test valves for foam systems on tank tops, lances for bottom injection into stocking tanks. We supply as well medium and high expansion foam generators for the protection of storage buildings. Hydraulic nozzles Our range of hydraulic nozzles includes open sprinklers, water/foam nozzles, high velocity nozzles, flat jet nozzles and all other type of equipment required to build deluge systems. Also available high quality deluge valves. Watermist nozzles The latest addition to our fire fighting range is a family of high pressure nozzles to build systems based on the new watermist concept. We offer both conventional types and innovative proprietary models which make it possible to realize systems (fixed and mobile systems) at a competitive price while maintaining high quality performance.
