3 How does the program work? Participation is easy. Just follow these simple steps: Contact your utility representative to discuss project ideas, complete project proposal forms, and determine potential rebate amounts Receive a project participation agreement indicating your project is approved Complete installation of the approved project Submit receipts and work orders Receive your rebate check Enjoy utility bill savings and new water-efficient equipment! Who is eligible to participate? All industrial, commercial, and institutional sewer customers of Lacey, Olympia, and Tumwater are eligible, including: Restaurants Schools Car Washes Office Buildings Medical and Dental Service Providers Hotels and Motels Churches Laundromats Retail/Small Businesses Manufacturers/Processors

4 Success Stories The following WaterSmart Technology projects were completed prior to 2007 when the maximum rebate level was 50% of installed project cost. Now, rebates can be as high as 75%, making WaterSmart projects more cost-effective than ever. Ice Machine Replacement at the Mayan Restaurant By replacing a water-cooled model with an air-cooled ice machine, the Mayan is saving approximately 219,000 gallons of water a year and about $1,781 in annual utility bill charges. Restaurants, hotels, and other facilities with water-cooled ice machines are eligible for similar savings. Sterilizer Retrofits at Providence St. Peter Hospital As part of a concerted effort in 2001 to increase efficiencies, the Hospital replaced vacuum pumps on four sterilizers. The project resulted in an annual water savings of 1,576,800 gallons, contributing to substantial savings on sewer and water utility fees. The Hospital received a rebate for $22,674. This WaterSmart project helped the Hospital cut operating expenses and their use of resources, in keeping with one of the organization s core values to serve as a good steward of the environment. Toilet Replacements at Batdorf & Bronson Four toilets were replaced with water-efficient models, saving over 70,000 gallons of water a year. Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roasters received a rebate for $600, and enjoys on-going utility bill savings. WaterSmart projects don t have to be big to be cost-effective for both LOTT and the customer. Cooling System Replacement at the Bank of America By replacing a single-pass cooling system with an air-cooled model, the Bank is saving over 650,000 gallons of water a year. Replacement of single-pass equipment for cooling or process systems can result in big savings. What other types of projects qualify? Nearly any project that results in a decrease of wastewater flows, including replacement or retrofit of: Boiler and steam systems Rinsing and cleaning processes Water-cooled ice machines Faucets Urinals Laundry equipment Pre-rinse sprayers And many more How much could your organization save?
