3 STORAGE Elastopor rigid foam provides the lowest coefficient of thermal conductivity among all grades of large-volume insulation materials. It maximizes the capacity of terminal storage tanks by using a thinner insulation layer while achieving an equivalent insulation performance. Moreover, the excellent compatibility of the Elastopor system with fiberglass matt provides easy-processing on the customer side. It makes storage tank design and construction more flexible. OFFSHORE Elastopor offshore systems offer a wide range of hot and cold insulation applications. In depths of up to 200 metres, Elastopor has excellent mechanical properties to maintain its stability and solidity under extreme circumstances. The opencell polyurethane foam becomes fully saturated with seawater and prevents floating of the pipeline. Elastopor With the magnification of the fine cell-structure of Elastopor, its closedcell structure makes it a perfect insulation material. BASF s PU Insulation Solution for Cryogenic Needs BASF Elastopor is a well known insulation foam that has been used in various applications for over 40 years. Elastopor systems are specifically designed for the difficult and demanding conditions faced by the oil and gas industry around the world. Its microcellular structure and high content of closed cells give it outstanding insulation properties to save energy and, ultimately, considerable financial savings. With over 40 years of experience in market and technology leadership for polyurethane systems, a thorough knowledge of tailored PU solutions and close partnerships with our customers have led to high-quality products that meet all desired foam properties.

4 BASF Polyurethanes provide reliable, dependable and proven cryogenic insulation solutions CARRIERS Elastopor polyurethanes provide superior insulation performance at cryogenic temperature, surpassing other insulation materials such as Perlite and glass wool. During the roughest journey of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) transport, the high mechanical strength of Elastopor protects against the shock of the waves and minimizes boil-off losses. To tap into the trend of energy efficiency, Elastopor foam is an ideal solution for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Liquefied Ethylene Gas (LEG) and low Boil-Off Rate (BOR) LNG carriers. PIPELINES Elastopor pipe insulation systems are specifically designed for LNG, LEG and LPG transport from carriers to terminal tanks. The mechanical properties of Elastopor foam maintain the liquefied gas at cryogenic temperature and minimize the thermal shock generated during uploading and downloading to ensure a steady flow of the liquefied gas.

5 Elastopor Sustainable Solution for Cryogenic Insulation Natural gas is a natural product of the earth s surface. It is odorless, colorless and non-toxic. It is an environmentallyfriendly alternative to fossil fuels, such as oil and coal. With an equivalent heat, the burning of natural gas emits 30% less CO 2 than petroleum and 45% less than coal. Natural gas reservoirs are usually located far from consumer markets, thus logistics is an important aspect of the business. Natural gas is difficult to store and transport due to its low density properties. In order to facilitate transport, a liquefaction process condenses natural gas into liquid form by cooling it to approx C at atmospheric pressure. The volume of liquefied natural gas (LNG) is reduced 600 times thereby making it cost efficient to transport over vast distances without pipelines. BASF Elastopor polyurethanes foam can be applied to various aspects in the LNG industry. It has excellent thermal insulating performance in cryogenic insulation. It is a reliable solution to minimize thermal shock during transportation. Elastopor is crucial for making natural gas available for daily use throughout the world.

7 New trends of advanced technology Floating Production Storage & Offloading (FPSO) Upstream evolution A LNG FPSO unit is a floating vessel for effective gas exploration, liquefaction, storage and offloading to carriers. A FPSO unit is used in frontier offshore regions to save the costs of long distance seabed pipelines from gas reservoirs to onshore terminals. Furthermore, a FPSO unit is easy to install and does not require expensive pipeline infrastructure. It allows shorter construction time for oil fields with shorter life spans. Once a field is depleted, the FPSO unit can be moved to another destination. Therefore, FPSO provides a cost effective and practical solution for the industry. Floating Storage & Regasification Unit (FSRU) Downstream evolution LNG Due to the risk of explosion and environmental pollution from onshore LNG storage facilities, the trend is to move the LNG terminals to offshore areas. A FSRU provides a safe and cost-effective alternative for traditional land-based LNG receiving terminals. A LNG FSRU unit is a floating storage and regasification system that receives liquefied natural gas from offloading LNG carriers. It is permanently moored offshore and exports gas through subsea pipelines to the final consumers directly. The building cost of FSRU is 50% less than land-based LNG terminals, while construction time is shorter. New Insulation for LNG Carriers A LNG carrier is a tank ship designed for transporting liquefied natural gas, which will be boiled off above -163 C. The storage has a major challenge due to the inherent heat input from the environment, thus carrier manufacturers are seeking effective insulation materials to minimize BOR. Polyurethane is the new insulation solution for LNG carriers. It has extremely low thermal conductivity to reduce vapour discharge, and minimize BOR during transportation. Moreover, polyurethane foam is thinner than traditional materials, such as Perlite. More storage capacity in the LNG carrier can be saved.
