3 Course Description: This course gives an overview of the materials commonly used for toilet partitions and how they apply and contribute to the LEED certification process. The user will be able to properly identify the materials and their environmental characteristics as they pertain to LEED. The course will also help identify the credits for which LEED certification credits can be obtained.

4 Learning Objectives: Upon completing this course, you will be able to: Breakdown the types of partitions based on their component materials and identify those materials that contribute to sustainability, recall the LEED categories that apply to toilet partitions and use the pre and post consumer content LEED definition to identify partitions that meet the LEED criteria, use the strategies for application of the LEED categories to search for LEED compliant partitions, distinguish the characteristics of each type of partition that contribute to LEED and select those that best compliment the needs of a project.

5 Building Green The growing prevalence of GREEN construction practices means that the demand for sustainable building materials will continue to rise and become a more important part of the overall construction environment. Among the benefits of green building are: lower operating costs and increased value of property, healthier and safer indoor environments, tax rebates, zoning allowances and other incentives in hundreds of cities and a demonstration of an owner's commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.

6 LEED LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environment Design It was developed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) as a practical building rating tool for application of green building methods. It is voluntary, third-party certification program that provides immediate and measurable results and an accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. LEED Certified buildings emphasize: Reducing global warming from greenhouse gases Conserving natural resources such as energy and water Reducing waste to landfills Sustaining the natural environment and animal habitats

7 Participation in the voluntary LEED process demonstrates leadership, innovation, environmental stewardship and social responsibility. LEED provides building owners and operators the tools they need to immediately impact their building s performance and bottom line, while providing healthy indoor spaces for a building s occupants. LEED projects have been successfully established in 135 countries. International projects, those outside the United States, make up more than 50% of the total LEED registered square footage. LEED unites us in a single global community and provides regional solutions, while recognizing local realities.
