4 Gas Upgrading Carbotech PSA Benefits Turnkey Includes all upgrading components Efficient CH 4 yields >99%, low operating costs High uptime/machine redundancy Simple Pre- fabricated/assembled/tested Requires only slab foundation No buildings necessary Capabilities Handles high-n 2 gas Meets stringent pipeline requirements Reduces media cost with integrated desulphurization Handles sulfur load with active carbon polishing beds Removes VOCs with TSA system, reducing CH 4 losses

5 BIOFerm Energy Systems Warranty & Performance Guarantee Equipment warranty months on installed components/systems Maintenance can be covered under O&M contract Performance guarantee Over entire biogas system Any performance below agreed percent is reimbursed

6 Biogas and Biogas Upgrading Where does it comes from? What is it? What can I do with it? In an anaerobic environment with the presence of bacteria, organic matter will undergo a Physical, Chemical and Biological Process With the right temperature, bacterial Anaerobic Digestion will take place while converting the complex organic matter into much simpler gaseous compounds. Anaerobic digestion generates Biogas with a high fraction of CH 4 and CO 2 and a small portion of some other gases (NH 3, H 2, H 2 S, etc.). Cleaned and upgraded biogas, called Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), is achieved through the removal of CO 2 and other impurities in the Biogas. Gas Grid Injection CHP Cogeneration Conditioned biomethane is ready-to-use: CNG-Vehicle Fuel

7 Landfill Biogas to RNG Drivers for Upgrading Incentives: New legislation and environmental goals (i.e. California s AB 32) requiring mandatory landfill gas collection and destruction High dollar RINs generated from upgraded landfill gas to RNG transportation fuel Increased EPA requirement to purchase RNG RINs

11 Biogas Upgrading Carbotech PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) Process Features: Completely integrated system Power Consumption: kwh/m³ Biogas Methane Recovery: > % Product Gas Quality: 90-99% CH 4 Pressure: 1 10 bar(g)

12 Gas Upgrading Carbotech PSA Upgrading Steps 1. Compress raw biogas 2. Remove condensed water vapor through cooling system 3. Remove trace components with activated carbon 4. Channel conditioned biogas through PSA adsorbers filled with carbon molecular sieves designed for adsorption 5. Remove CO 2, H 2 O, H 2 S, NH 3, siloxanes, odors and parts of O 2 and N 2 via adsorption in PSA 6. Produce RNG, a highly-enriched renewable natural gas, is produced
