5 Typical Process at Brownfield Site Planning and Site Inventory Phase I Site Assessment An inspection of the property and a review of town, state and federal records to determine if a property has any actual or potential environmental concerns. Allows for an opinion to be rendered as to whether a Phase II investigation is warranted Enrollment in CT Voluntary Cleanup Program Confirm Eligibility of Sites in Inventory 5

9 How Are These Funds Helping East Hartford? East Hartford has leveraged the EPA Brownfields Grant as matching funds for the CTDECD-sponsored BAR Grant for the Silver Lane corridor Assessment work is underway at 639 Main Street Site Inventory is underway 9

10 How Can These Funds Continue to Help East Hartford? To identify potential Brownfields sites through an inventory and eligibility process To perform Phase I, II, and III environmental site assessments, with a focus on sites within the town s Railroad Depot Zone 10

11 How Can These Funds Continue to Help East Hartford? Before To remove uncertainty about environmental contamination of these sites and clear the way for subsequent cleanup and redevelopment of these parcels, while using existing infrastructure and taking pressure off of already scarce undeveloped/open land. After To attract private investment, create jobs, increase property values, and increase the tax base while improving and protecting the environment. 11
