The required manpower is available locally. The implementation of industrial laws and regulations and locational factors of labour employment will also have to be considered. Power: The contracted power will be 93KVA. The power will be obtained from West Bengal State Electricity Board (WBSEB). Apart from this, there will be one D.G. set with capacity of 62 KVA as backup unit. 5. MANUFACTURING PROCESS Manufacturing process is briefly described in this section along with brief process description and chemical reaction. Detailed manufacturing process: In Batch process measured LAB (Linear Alkyl Benzene) is taken in a reaction vessel and then measured Sulphuric Acid is fed in the reaction vessel through measuring tank with controlled temperature then whole mass is left for some time 4

5 for complete reaction and digestion. After proper testing when it is found the sulphonation is completed, measured water is added for diluting the mass and is transferred to settling tank for setting or separation of acid for 12 to 14 hours. After proper separation of the total mass the lower layer which is the Spent Sulphuric Acid is transferred to Spent Sulphuric Acid tank and the Upper layer which is Acid slurry is transferred to Acid Slurry Storage tank. It requires very sound knowledge of all steps and this process has some definite advantages as stated below: Uniform and consistent quality Better yield/higher productivity Saving in use of H 2 SO 4 Simple Process Instant start and stopping arrangement Very easy to operate No Noise, Air, Water Pollution Low cost of Labour & Electricity Improved Odour Improved Colour Shorter Acid holding time Process Parameters to be maintained during Sulphonation: Time to time cooling is required because of exothermic reaction which leads to generation of heat. Temperature during Sulphonation: 45 0 C 60 0 C Temperature during Digestion: 50 0 C 55 0 C Temperature during Dilution: 50 0 C 60 0 C Max. Time taken for Sulphonating agent: Addition of H 2 SO 4 : 2 1/2 hrs to 3 hrs Duration of Digestion: 2 hrs Adding of Water Dilution: 2 hrs to 3 hrs Settling Time: 12 hrs to 14 hrs 5

7 6. ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS The factory is planned as far as practicable as an inherently non polluting unit. In this unit, the production type is totally closed system. So, no possibility of generation of any type of emission from the production process. There will be combustion of Diesel in Generators (62 KVA). The emission will be discharged through a chimney having a proper height as per the norms of WBPCB. There will be no generation of effluent water from process and the domestic sewerage about 0.1 KLD will be discharged in the local Govt. Body s Sewerage system after treated as per PHE rules. During operational stage 125 Kg/month solid waste (approx) will be generated. From process 1180 MT/ month H 2 SO 4 (75-85 %) will be generated which will be collected, stored, transported and sold to Authorized Actual Users. 20 Kg/month (approx) sewage sludge will be given to Govt. approved incinerators. However, necessary precaution for storage and handling of other chemicals will be taken as per requirement. No Noise will be generated from operation. There will be one Acoustic DG sets. Therefore no significant noise will be generated. An extensive plantation programme will be taken for inside the boundary premises and both side of internal road. The total area covered for plantation programme is m 2. i.e., 33% of total area. Air pollutants The sources of air pollution from the plant activities are as follows: In the process there will be no chance of generation of air pollution as all the reaction vessels will be kept closed during the reaction process. In the D.G. Set; the chimney of proper height is provided as per the regulation of W.B.P.C.B. So emission of flue gas will disperse efficiently. Air quality will be regularly monitored. 7

8 Source Fuel APC System Concentration of dust D.G. Set (62KVA) Inlet Outlet Diesel Proper stack with exhaust - <75 mg/nm 3 Solid Waste Management The solid waste generation and management are proposed as follows: Type of Solid Waste Discarded Containers/ Barrels Estimated Generation (Kg/Month) Process of Disposal 125 Decontamination and reuse or sell to scrap vendors Sewage Sludge 20 To be given to Govt. approved incinerators Liquid Effluent Generation and Control There will be no generation of effluent water from process. There will be liquid effluent (approx 0.1KLD) from domestic section. Part of this effluent will be taken into septic tank and to soak pit; other part will be discharged to Panchayet drain. The Domestic waste water will be treated as per PHE norms. So there will be no such risk of contamination of ground or surface water. Noise Pollution Control Proper acoustic enclosure for rotating equipment and providing silencers for DG set (62KVA) will help in keeping noise level within CPCB norms. Greenbelt An extensive plantation within the boundary limits of the plant is considered during project work by planting about 2300 saplings making a two row deep green belt along the periphery (spacing 2.0 m x 2.0 m) and all along internal roads and dumps leaving only adequate truck access. The total land area covered for greenbelt will be 33% of the total area i.e., sqm. 8
