Outline CCOP at a Glance CCS-M Program Implementation and Knowledge Resources The Way Forward Summary

CCOP Programmes in East and Southeast Asia Since 1966

Vision Geoscience for a Sustainable Future Mandate To Promote and Coordinate joint applied geoscience programmes for the sustainable development in East and Southeast Asian Countries

Sustainable Development: development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Brundtland Report, 1987

CCOP BACKGROUND Established 1966 under UN ESCAP 1987 became Intergovernmental Organization (UN funding continued) 1991 full IGO Close link maintained with UN through ESCAP

CCOP Organization Member Countries: Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Lao PDR, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, & Vietnam Cooperating Countries: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russian Federation, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom & USA Steering Committee Advisory Group Cooperating Organizations Corresponding Organizations

ACTIVITIES Focus : GEOSCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES -capacity building -geological/geophysical surveys -regional map compilation -data base development -Networking

CCOP CO 2 Storage Mapping Program (CCS-M) - a CCS capacity building program of CCOP

CCS-M Launching in Bali 29 April 2013

Goals of CCS-M To enable government organizations in the CCOP member countries to provide a high level overview of the potential for largescale CO 2 storage.

Scope 1) Safe storage of CO 2 2) Possible use of CO 2 for increased recovery

CCS-M Outcomes Form a consensus on the methodology Enhanced capacity of member countries Development of the Atlas of CO 2 Storage in the CCOP region Facilitate the sharing of information GIS & metadata system Further collaboration CCS & EOR potential, compatible capacity estimates, etc. Guidelines for National CO 2 Storage Mapping

CCS-M Implementation 2013 Facilitation Phase (USD0.5 M from Global CCS Institute) Training Courses & Seminars Development of Guidelines Case Study Phase (+ NOK5.0 M) 3 Case Studies Storage mapping 2017 CCS Atlas Development Integration of Storage Maps

CCS-M Work Plan 2014 (1st Half) ACTIVITY JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN T3: Communicating CCS to the Public Yogya S2: CCS and EOR Hanoi T4: Assessment of geologic capacity for CO2 storage and EOR technologies MY T5: GIS applications (?)

CCS-M Work Plan 2014 (1st Half) June 2014: CCS-M Program Oversight Committee (POC) meeting Currently working with DNV GL (CCS group)- for possible collaboration in the CCS-M case studies.

CCS-M Knowledge Resources PETRAD Network (Statoil, DNV, SINTEF, IRIS, etc) and NPD USGS IEA, IEAGHG, GeoNet Shell CCOP: GSJ and KIGAM Geoscience Australia, GCCSI, CSIRO and CO 2 CRC

Summary Total funding for CCS-M now stands at ~USD1.35 Million The CCS-M Guidelines is aligned to international standards and will be available to all Member Countries. CCS Knowledge Resources for CCS-M are among the best in the world and we will continue to tap other organizations that could support our capacity building needs.
