1 Water purification Powered by solar energy. Purification system designed by WMD Address Contact Cedel B.V. +31 (0) Portugallaan (0) DR, Assen info@cedel.nl The Netherlands

2 Please note: The Cedel solar powered purification plant in this brochure is an example configuration. There are many more possible configurations. Every project begins with an analysis of the: Water quality - to determine how much water can be purified in a certain amount of time. Solar radiation - to calculate the amount of solar panels needed. After this analysis, your Cedel solar powered purification plant will be custom-made for your desired location. 2

3 Solar powered purification plant. The Cedel BV water purification system contains two 40-foot containers, which are placed two-by-two linked. There is about 6 meters of free space between them for storage. One container houses the reverse osmosis skid (RO), water filtration unit and desalination equipments. The second container is equipped with the battery racks that store solar energy, providing with a backup energy source, ensuring that the supply of clean, healthy water is not interrupted. Purified water is stored in a storage tank housed in the third container which is fitted with two tanks of liter, along with a tank for feed water. The fourth container is equipped with a manually operated bottle filling line, added to the other containers or operated independently. The high efficiency photovoltaic panels are installed on an easy-to-mount, fully-galvanized steel framework covering the four containers and supported by steel posts at the four corners. These panels supply all the energy needed to power the Cedel BV purification plant. The full system is a complete turnkey solution with all elements and components integrated and supplied. 4 Purification process Once raw water from the sea or brackish sources is pumped into the purification system, the unit s solar-powered pumps and compressor begin their work. First an automatic self-cleaning sand filter removes all solid particles and debris. Then filtration by reverse osmosis membranes removes all suspended solids, turbidity, viruses, bacteria and organic compounds. Based on membrane technology the system forces water through a series of circular membrane plate filtration, in streams in a way that effectively minimizes pressure on the pumps and membranes. It therefore requires less energy than any other system, allowing the unit to operate solely using solar power. As a consequence, yearly running costs for Cedel BV units are considerably lower than standard existing units. As a last step the filtered water is mineralized to get optimal drinking water quality with good taste, comparable with bottled mineral water. img 2: An inside view on one of the membrane filters. img 3: The housing of the membrane filters. 4

Each model is designed to address different requirements in terms of the type of water to be treated and expected output. Each Cedel BV unit is a turnkey system ready for use, with all connections in place and filter and pumping systems pretested. Before delivery, the Cedel BV unit is configured by Dutch engineers to meet local requirements, taking into account the site of deployment and level of sunshine. This configuration will determine the number and position of the unit s solar panels. The quality of the water to be treated and its intended use will determine the type of filtration needed. Flexibility, autonomy, simplicity and efficiency are the four attributes common to all Cedel BV designs. Seawater and brackish water - output high quality drink water 17,000l/day, 6,200 m3/year* Fresh water - output high quality drink water 34,000l/day, 12,400m3/year* * These numbers are based on the example specifications 6

7 Simple and efficient operation Based on reverse-osmosis (RO) and a unique membrane filter system requiring less energy than traditional units, Cedel solar powered purification plant converts contaminated or salt water into safe drinking water wherever the unit is deployed. Powered solely by high-performance solar panels, the water to be purified is first pumped and then injected directly into the system. In two pre-treatment steps, all debris and solids contained in the water are removed. This is followed by a reverse-osmosis purification phase in which all salts, viruses, bacteria and contaminants are eliminated through a series of flat and circular membranes. The purified water is remineralized and stored in a buffer tank container, ready for distribution or bottling. Benefits Low cost Complete turnkey solar system Stand-alone, robust and built to last. Operates independently of any external power source (electrical or diesel) Fully ecological solution No chemicals used in the purification process Totally green solution Deployable in the most isolated areas Easily transportable High output from 17m 3 to 34m 3 per day depending on water source Operating costs 50% to 70% lower compared to a traditional non-solar unit No need for permanent infrastructures Steady flow throughout the process to prevent clogging of fouling Top quality and best-inclass components Fully automated, system cleaning and purging. On average, maintenance and running costs are 50% lower than costs for electricity- powered units and up to 70% lower than for those powered by fuel. This is because Cedel BV water purification unit is completely independent from any external energy source (electricity or diesel) and has minimal need for spare parts and consumables such as filters. In fact, a filter change is only required every four to five years, unlike conventional reverse osmosis systems which require frequent and regular changes. Return of investment in less than 3 years 7
