2 Comfort is optimized climate Based on the objective comfort bears both performance and recovery potentials. The microclimate around an organism considerably impacts this. The more a climate tends to warm/humid the more stressful it becomes for a human being. With special climate visualization technology we create an image of this heat and humidity interaction around the body. The result is an insight into the body language of an organism offering hints on his need for more or less heat. Knowing these processes and in consequence treating them positively bears great know-how for more performance and recovery potentials. With THG AreaView technology we found an instrument which visualizes the heat and humidity developments in areas hidden to the eye. Live and almost in real time the climate of a man sitting in a car seat becomes transparent, the tropical and stressful humidity inside a protection suit can be seen, reasons for disturbed sleep become observable and a lot more. 4 THG AreaView SeatView SeatView has been developed for the automotive industry and has been adopted from various recognized car producers and tier1 suppliers today. Whether it is an active of passive climate solution SeatView tracks and visualizes the live development of heat and humidity flows in the comfort zone between human and seat. Combined with BodyView also the seat core becomes climate transparent. Identify thermic and hydrographic weak spots and optimize your climate relevant systems with SeatView technology. The thermo/hydrographic image sequence shows one of 2,500 images of a human back with a running seat heating. The temperature (left chart) and absolute humidity (right chart) both increase parallel. The organism reacts upon the external heat source almost immediately and starts to perspire. Despite the unobjectionable relative humidity (middle chart) of this momentum in fact absolute humidity instantly starts to accumulate between driver and seat. It becomes warm but at the same time humid which may negatively impact comfort in the course of time. 5 THG AreaView SleepView A human sleeps about 1/3 of his life. Comfort and climate play a central role here. Accumulated humidity through transpiration between a human and a laying area or a duvet expresses the organisms intent to cool. However excessive humidity in this well insulated area reduces the effect of this intent and stresses the organism. The consequences reach from waking phases during the sleep to the extreme of severe skin tissue damage. SleepView visualizes these climate processes and supports the development of sleep and laying systems with high comfort potential. The graph on the right shows the humi - dity between human and mattress in absolute values. It represents the mass output (perspiration) of the orga nism and is independent of temperature. Parallel (not shown here) the condition is up to 34 C warm which widely keeps the relative humidity unobjectionable. But the occupant sweats and directly expresses his intent to cool. Knowing these interactions early can be valuable in actively conditioned environments and may support to improve the development of extreme humid zones in passive environments. 6 THG AreaView BodyView BodyView is unique for tracking body and body near climate. Standalone sensors can be placed at almost any spot between skin and textile to track heat and humidity developments. Is the human being the source of the climate BodyView directly shows the organisms individual need for heating or cooling. Comfort and performance potentials can be derived from that. BodyView is also suitable for climate measurement inside of systems such as automotive seats. BodyView like any THG AreaView application creates a 2D-image of a climate area. In addition because of its stand-alone sensors it can also detect climate in various layers (see below). Starting from skin level to T-shirt and long sleeve to the outside of the jacket several climate layers occur indicating the heat and humidity path throughout a whole apparel system. 7 THG AreaView HeadView HeadView visualizes the heat and humidity developments within head protection applications. The body releases a considerable amount of heat over the head. Accumulated transpiration humidity within a head protection device decreases the effect of the heat release. The consequences reach from uncomfortable heat and humidity sensations to decreased performance potentials. HeadView offers the optimization of climate comfort within head protection devices of all kind. Looked at bike helmets as an example it can be shown that the head with support of head wind is widely aerated well. Standing still however considerable differences can occur quickly. Convection between head and helmet is limited or interrupted. But especially when standing still heat and humidity holdups are perceived as uncomfortable from the users.
