11 Benefits of Geothermal GEOTHERMAL ENERGY offers major opportunities for Economic opportunities and savings Improve energy security in Europe Reducing greenhouse gas emissions Reducing dependence on fossil fuels for energy use Improving quality of life Growing the low-carbon technology industry and creating employment opportunities For the future of our European cities For the future of our Food supply For our Industry and Power supply 11

12 Economic Benefits of Geothermal Renewables for heating and cooling could save EUR 11.5 billion per year within EU Statement from AEBIOM, EGEC and ESTIF representing the biomass, geothermal and solar thermal sectors respectively, which addressed an open letter to the Heads of State and Government, ahead of their spring meeting in Brussels 19th of March Renewables for heating in Iceland is already saving up to 7% of GDP or equivalent 3000 US $ per capita per year According to assessment done within 2014 Geothermal District Heating has the potential to alleviate Europe s energy security crisis Is stated in a press release from Geothermal District Heating (GeoDH) in Brussels, 15th May It is therefore important for policymakers and others to recognize the great opportunity regarding geothermal heating for savings for countries, improve the energy security and mitigate climate change

14 New Report - Comparison on International Geothermal Energy Statistics The name of the report: International Geothermal Energy Statistics Reporting The aim of the report is to provide an overview of the international collection of geothermal energy statistics by various international organizations. The overview can assist the Geothermal ERA-NET in evaluating how they can contribute to the geothermal community without further duplicating the work that is already multiplicated across various international bodies. It can also be used by energy agencies to enable interoperability of geothermal energy statistics, increase reliability and decrease fragmentation. The report is in process and will be soon ready for a review
