1 Renewable Innovative Engineering Solutions

2 Renewable Today Our Expertise There are many drivers for change in the power sector. One indication of this is the rapid growth of renewable energy. Around $40 billion in new renewables investment is expected by Renewable technologies are diverse, but all have the fundamental ability to provide virtually inexhaustible, emissions-free energy. Sources include the sun, wind, the ocean through currents and waves, flowing water, geothermal heat, and a wide range of biological materials as diverse as waste saw-mill residue and sewage gas. Renewable energy is not just the production of electricity. It can include the provision of heat for industrial processes, various forms of liquid bio-fuels, and a range of hybrid technologies that work alongside the more traditional technologies using oil, coal, gas, or nuclear fuels. Renewables bring different characteristics to more traditional energy sources. These differences mean that our energy systems will need to transition as renewable energy input increases. The future of energy points to a growing portfolio of renewables working alongside more traditional sources. Technologies such as energy storage and smart energy will play an important role in this transition. Renewable energy is a key part of Australia s increasingly diverse energy mix. RCR is now firmly established as a leader in this dynamic and rapidly evolving industry. Our renewables capabilities cover project inception, design, construction, deployment, and operation to provide full asset lifecycle support. This end-to-end approach increases the value of our design and front-end services as new projects, technologies, and concepts can be tested against the successes and failures of those already operating; to deliver low-risk, costeffective solutions. RCR has in-house critical expertise in renewable energy projects, from conceptual work and decision making to hands-on operations. Our services leverage a broad experience base and cover diverse capabilities, including: Utility Solar & Wind BoP Hybrid Power Solutions Biomass conversion technologies Power Distribution & Substations Electrical, Control & Instrumentation expertise Communications and Data Solutions Process Control Systems RCR s ability to combine a deep understanding of traditional energy technologies and systems with our renewables expertise is of particular value for our clients. We are able to leverage the experience of the past to meet future challenges.

3 Renewable Technologies Solar Power Solar Power is a rapidly advancing energy resource of key interest to many of our clients. While passive uses include domestic heating and hot water production, industrial use involves two basic technologies: photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar thermal power (CSP or CST). PV produces electricity directly with a technology that is simple, modular and continuing to decrease in price as production capacity around the world increases. Technologies include flat-plate silicon modules, thin film modules, and concentrating PV (CPV), with other types in development. CSP varies from PV in that heat can be combined with fossil fuels in hybrids, used in industrial processes such as gas reformation, or used to raise steam to drive a turbine to produce electricity. Technologies include solar towers and parabolic troughs. We provide clients with surety in safe, low risk and high value EPC delivery of Utility Scale Solar farms. Benefits of partnering with RCR include: Extensive experience Internal PV engineering & modelling Solution focused with best-for-project outlook Technology agnostic solutions Prequalified supply chain & strategic partnerships Self-perform delivery capability Integrated & proven construction methodology EPC wrap and performance guarantee Biomass Conversion Biomass presents a diverse and complex set of applications utilising a range of fuel resources and technologies. Biomass can come from a variety of sources including grain crops, woody plantations, animal manure, human sewage, waste streams, and can even be derived from algae. The technologies required to use these fuels vary from direct boilers, to fluidised bed reactors, to standard reciprocating engines and very complex chemical plants. Biomass projects can be complex, which is where RCR s chemical, industrial, and thermal generation expertise can be leveraged. RCR has a broad and up-to-date knowledge of current project development and bio-energy issues. Renewable & Fossil Hybrids Hybrids of renewables with fossil fuelled processes will be an important component of the renewable energy sector. These can include such things as wind input into islanded loads, the use of solar thermal technology in chemical processes, solar boosting on large thermal power stations, and the combination of renewables with gas turbines. RCR has experience across each of these areas, leveraging our significant fossil capability to ensure such integration is successful in the long term. RCR works across all of these solar technologies through services such as site selection, conceptual and detailed designs, output estimating, project delivery management, and operational support. RCR has particular expertise in solar hybrids, such as integration with our proprietary combined cycle gas turbines to increase plant efficiency and reduce carbon footprint. The benefits of renewable energy from a business and environmental perspective can only be realised through a long, successful operational life. RCR can undertake a range of operational roles from the provision of engineering support, to full facility management, including asset planning and the scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of equipment. Operations & Maintenance Construction Site Layout & Optimisation Prediciton Estimating Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) & Optimisation RCR leads the industry in understanding effective ECI engagement, how to best support project design, development and its impact on financial returns and performance Scheduling Multiple iterations of design, layouts, energy performance and cost estimating are required to arrive at a fully optimised solution

4 Broken Hill Solar Plant Client: First Solar/AGL Ltd Location: Broken Hill, NSW RCR was responsible for the installation, testing and commissioning of the DC and AC plant, including the thin film PV modules. RCR undertook the detail civil and trenching works, AC/DC/Communication cable installation, terminations and earth grid works, in addition to installing 40 inverter stations, two switchrooms, SCADA and OEM buildings. The Broken Hill Solar Plant is a 53MW solar PV power station located 5km southwest of Broken Hill. The solar plant occupies approximately 140 hectares and has over 650,000 solar PV modules installed at the site. The solar plant was connected to the electrical grid via a 22kV transmission line that connected into an existing substation, located 2.7km to the east. RCR successfully completed 130,000 man hours in six months, with 0 Lost Time Injuries. RCR was engaged to design and supply a complete boilerhouse containing boiler plant components, supervision of erection, installation and commissioning for Nestlé s greenfield processing plant near Osorno, Chile. The plant supplies finished products to Central America and the Chilean market. Chile has an abundance of plantation forests for the pulp and paper industry, but limited indigenous reserves of fossil fuels. This required a clean burning, renewable fuel solution. RCR designed and installed a boiler fired on biomass featuring vibrating grate combustion system; a very high efficiency boiler with economiser; and particulate emission control using an Electrostatic Precipitator. RCR has also successfully designed and installed coffee waste-fired boilers at Nestlé s operations in Australia, the UK and Mexico 15t/h Biomass Fired Steam Boiler Client: Nestlé Location: Osorno, Chile Dalby Downs 200MW Solar Farm Client: Origin Location: Dalby QLD Early in 2016, RCR was awarded an ECI contract by Origin to provide design and engineering expertise for Origin s proposed large-scale solar farm located in Dalby, Queensland. Upon successful completion of the ECI work, achievement of state and federal regulatory approvals and other considerations, RCR will enter into a Design and Construct ( D&C ) Contract for the development of the proposed Solar Farm. The installation of the solar infrastructure, which is permitted to deliver up to 200 MW of generation capacity, will create up to a 200 Ha solar footprint. The project leverages our intellectual capital in the design and construction of large-scale energy generation assets and reflects RCR s standing as one of the country s leading energy solutions specialists.
