3 Thermal Energy Storage Thermal storage systems remove heat from or add heat to a storage medium for use at another time like the hot water heater in a home. For ice or water based commercial systems, this means using a chiller to produce ice or chilled water when electric rates are lower or the utility needs load and using the ice for cooling during the peak periods.

5 Thermal vs. Battery Storage What to remember Electric batteries are great and an important part of the storage solution. They serve many needs since they can deliver electrons. However, Thermal Energy Storage (TES) has significant benefits for commercial air conditioning applications: 1. TES is less expensive 2. TES will not degrade over time, 20+ years life 3. TES will not create disposal issues 4. TES has longer discharge times 5. Tanks are modular and mobile, can be relocated 6. IT DOES WHAT A BATTERY DOES, IT STORES ENERGY.
