2 THE GASON STORY In February 1946 my father, Frank Gason, founded a motor trimming business at Ararat in western Victoria. During the following year he was asked to build a cabin for a Minneapolis Moline GTA (Twin City) tractor. He did so with his usual thoroughness and commitment to quality, creating a standard for Gason agricultural equipment that continues to this day. It was the first of many tens of thousands of cabins produced over the following 40 years that carried the Gason name on to farms in every corner of Australia. Many older farmers still fondly remember their first experience of weather protection provided by a Gason cabin. Government contracts started to flow in and a production line was developed. We decided to build operator cabins for not just tractors and selfpropelled headers, but for all agricultural, industrial and earthmoving equipment. My father s philosophy was to build the very best and it paid off. By the mid-1970 s our tractor, header and industrial e q u i p m e n t cabins became the standard and were fitted as original equipment in tractor company plants across Australia. Contracts were signed with Caterpillar and John Deere, amongst others, and we captured 90% of all government contracts for a vast variety of industrial cabins. Gason helped pioneer an Australian Standard for roll-over protective structures (ROPS) for tractors and established a NATA approved test facility at the factory. Our ROPS were the first approved by the Standards Association of Australia. As manufacturers started bringing in tractors with cabins already fitted, we moved towards d e v e l o p i n g cultivation and air seeder machines as a means of diversification. Engineers were engaged to design products suited to our unique Australian conditions. The result was a range of tillage planters and seeding equipment that continued our commitment to providing farmers with tough, long-lasting machinery. Research and development has been an ongoing obsession for us here at Gason. Improvements are constantly in the pipeline. Our products are highly regarded for their accuracy and efficiency. In 2004 the independent Kondinin Group found that our Australian designed and built air seeder ranked as a world leader for accuracy of seed and fertiliser distribution. We maintain our status as an ISO9001 licensed manufacturer. Our facilities are constantly being improved with the ongoing installation of modern manufacturing equipment in our 18,000 square metre, fully enclosed factory. We maintain a strong national dealer network to ensure our farmers are well supported. We also maintain close contact with farmers in every state so that we understand their developing requirements. The third generation of Gason s are now working in the business as part of a strong management team. Sixty years on we remain true to Frank s guiding principles principles that made the company synonymous with excellence in tractor cabins, and principles that now make the Gason name synonymous with excellence in broad acre farm machinery. Les Gason Managing Director

ENGINEERED FOR AUSTRALIAN CONDITIONS Gason equipment is designed by engineers with practical experience who understand Australian conditions. Thorough testing on farms right across Australia ensures that every Gason machine will deliver top performance in every application. Precision manufacture High-capacity, highly accurate laser cutting machines capable of producing parts accurate to one tenth of a millimetre are at the heart of Gason s manufacturing process. With computer numerical control (CNC) folders and purpose-built tooling, the Gason facility has the stringent controls necessary for high quality and repeatability of components. Our highly durable tillage and seeding equipment is capable of precise performance, time after time. A better finish All steel, sub-assemblies and coated fabricated parts are stored under cover. This ensures all coated parts are dispatched in an as new condition. The key to a good looking and durable finish is in the preparation. Frames and components are either buffed or put through our shot blasting facility as part of the coating preparation. The shot blasting process removes surface imperfections and grease, leaving a fine-textured surface for improved coating adhesion. As an added bonus, shot blasting removes surface stresses, improving the fatigue life of the component. Buffed parts are degreased through a three stage iron phosphate wash system. Components are then put through one of our electrostatic coating systems - either powder or two-coat high bake enamel. 3 All steel and assemblies are kept under cover. Laser cut parts are accurate to 0.1mm. Paint depths are electronically checked.

SPECIFY A MACHINE TO SUIT YOUR FARMING CONDITIONS Versatility is the major benefit when choosing from the Gason tillage planter range. The Gason range of tined implements offers farmers the opportunity to specify a machine best suited to their overall requirements. The full list of configurations and options is shown on pages 16 to 19. Choose the overall width to suit your tractor and conditions, select from a variety of row spacings and nominate tyre sizes. Many machines offer a choice of floating hitch or rigid pull. Other choices are also available. Both shanks and ground tools are easily changed in the field, providing further versatility and allowing you to switch between conventional till and zero/minimum till. Choose between spring tines with 400 or 540 lbs breakout force, or hydraulic tines with up to 680 lbs breakout force. ScariTILL refers to spring tine machines and HydraTILL denotes hydraulic tines. 4 ScariTILL conventional working with sweeps minimum till or no till with knife points controlled traffic, 2, 3 or 4 m accommodates mounted press wheels and/or coulters HydraTILL conventional working with sweeps minimum till or no till with knife points controlled traffic, 2, 3 or 4 m hydraulic breakout with soft recoil precision agriculture with optional parallelograms, constant seed depth with banding if required accommodates mounted press wheels and/or coulters

TOTAL TINE TECHNOLOGY ScariTILL offers standard spring release tines with two optional breakout forces and HydraTILL s hydraulic release mechanism provides variable adjustment and a soft return mechanism. Spearpoint shank with female adapter. Tine assembly towers are mounted above the toolbar for maximum trash clearance. Choose from two types of shanks, both with vertical adjustment. Spearpoint shanks are available with male or female adapters. Double bolt shanks are available with either 47º or 50º forged feet. Spearpoint with male adapter. Vertical adjustment allows tines to be placed lower behind the tractor wheels to maintain a constant sowing depth. Vertical adjustment is perfect for raised beds. Tine depth can be varied across the frame to follow the contour of the beds. Double bolt 47 forged foot shank for sweeps. Double bolt 50 forged foot shank for sweeps. ScariTILL HydraTILL Vertical height adjustment in 12 mm increments. Slotted top bolt hole allows for the fitting of a wide range of ground tools with bolt spacings from 1 3/4 to 2 1/4. 5

Both ScariTILL and HydraTILL tillage planters are available in cutting widths from 6.0 m to 18.5 m. Transport widths vary from 4.8 m to a maximum of 8.65 m. 6

ScariTILL spring release available with either 400 lbs or 540 lbs breakout force maximum jump of 350 mm (spearpoint shanks at 760 mm underframe clearance) HydraTILL hydraulic release two accumulator pre-charge pressures lbs and lbs variable adjustment within the ranges maximum jump of 350 mm (spearpoint shanks at 760 mm underframe clearance) remote mounted pressure gauge double chrome plating on cylinder rods with double seals and back up wiper for improved corrosion protection solid ram shaft eliminates flexing and reduces seal wear large dimension hardened steel bushes and pivot pins with Molycoating for corrosion and seizure protection two piece stepped outer primary pivot bushes provide a grease reservoir inner bush has a spiral groove to transfer grease along the entire length of the bearing surface Spring tines are fitted with polyurethane shock pads to absorb recoil loads, reducing metal fatigue. Holes in pivot assembly and tines allow vertical adjustment in 12 mm increments and easy changeover of shanks. 7

Depth control breakout geometry Gason tine release geometry maintains a more constant sowing depth because of the relationship between the pivot point and ground tool. Tines tend to move horizontally rearwards before rising. Exceptional trash clearance Gason tillage planter bars provide exceptional trash clearance with the cleanest underframe design in the business. up to 760 mm maximum underframe clearance no tine towers below the frame no springs below the frame five row frame with minimum 800 mm between rows total depth of frame 3.8 metres Trash clearance is exceptional with straight edge on tines, a clean underframe and minimum 800 mm between rows. 8 Double shooting setup with height adjustable seed boot behind. Tine mounted boot places fertiliser at depth with seed above.

PRESS WHEELS Users of press wheels report better utilisation of soil moisture and quicker germination, especially in drier conditions. Available in either tine or frame mounted. mounts left or right of tine (frame mounted wheels) greasable, hardened bushes in all pivot points variable height settings for large range of underframe clearances variable wheel pressure via adjustable spring wide range of wheels available can be stored in a pin-up position if not in use - no tools required uses standard Holden hub with seal guard arm pivot allows self-alignment when turning Tine mounted press wheels are good, lower cost solutions in light soil conditions where there is little or no tine breakout movement. Frame mounted press wheels are a better option in tougher conditions because they maintain their position independently of the tines. Sowing boots can be mounted on the press wheels for better seed depth control. Frame mounted press wheels are very popular in conjunction with coulters. Scrapers Optional scrapers with tungsten tiles are available to stop soil buildup in sticky conditions. Optional seeding eding boot attached to press wheel provides better seed depth control. Mud scraper optional. PRECISION AGRICULTURE WITH PARALLELOGRAMS Precision agriculture is the name of the game with parallelograms (available only on HydraTILL ). Gason parallelograms maintain precise seed depth, and also allow for side banding, and double or triple shooting. When double shooting, fertiliser is placed using the sowing boot on the front tine while the rear boot places seed at the correct depth. Rear tine depth is controlled by the press wheel. Blending is also possible. Main fertiliser application is through the front sowing boot, but a starter dose of fertiliser is mixed with the seed through the rear boot. precise seed depth with the press wheel controlling rear tine height rear tine can be offset by up to 25 mm for banding Parallelogram can be removed completely if not required and replaced with spearpoint or double bolt shank. Mud scraper optional. 9

RIGID PULL OR FLOATING HITCH Both ScariTILL and HydraTILL come with the choice of either rigid pull or a floating hitch. Each has its advantages depending on your conditions. All hitches are fitted with mechanical parking jacks, safety tow chains and replaceable hitch pin bush. Rigid pull Floating hitch Rigid Pull is often a better choice where paddocks are fairly flat because considerable weight is transferred to the drawbar improving traction. Horsepower requirements are usually lower. The hitch tongue is adjustable to cater for different drawbar heights and working depths. Floating hitch is the ideal choice for uneven ground. It is hinged at the frame attach points. The entire weight of the machine is carried on two rows of wheels (in frame and out front) allowing it to closely follow contours regardless of the tractor s position. Frame attach pivots use replaceable bushes. CONTROLLED TRAFFIC Hydraulic hitch height adjustment available on rigid pull models 10 Controlled traffic farming reduces soil compaction. It reduces draft and can reduce tractor fuel consumption. Both ScariTILL and HydraTILL are available in controlled traffic versions with wheel spacings of 2 m, 3 m and 4 m.

WHEELS Large singles Standard on all controlled traffic models or by request on some models. Walking wheels are excellent at following contours and maintaining an even seed depth. They are especially suited to rocky conditions. Walking beam wheels can assist with depth variation. 11

COULTERS Many farmers find coulters are a very useful addition to help cut through trash and prevent soil explosion in front of the tines. four mounting options - direct to frame using U bolts - left or right of the tine tower - directly to the tine tower replacing the cast clamp - offset stub mount adjustable pressure spring up to 200 lbs breakout full castoring with increased spring force to hold straight if not in use can be stored in pin-up position three greasable points 18" coulter discs in plain, wavy and fluted styles 12 Offset stub mount (using u bolts). Mount arm Left or right of tine.
