2 Thermodynamics & Steam Engineering Automotive Engineering Mechanics of Fluids Cussons Technology Ltd, founded in 1876, is a company specialising in educational technology,manufacturing and supplying a comprehensive range of mechanical engineering and research equipment for universities, technical institutes and training establishments worldwide. The company grew substantially with the expansion of Engineering teaching, particularly in the UK and Europe, and in 1964 Cussons Technology joined forces with Ricardo Consulting Engineers to enhance the educational range and introduce automotive research equipment & facilities for Universities & Industry. Thus Cussons became a world leader in education,research, test and measurement with a philosophy of providing excellent design, reliability & support for clients worldwide. Our founder George Cussons Snr was a pioneer,recognising that student involvement in an experimentrather than just telling or demonstrating was the best way to allow full understanding. Cussons equipment for teaching & training continues to embrace this principle, but now with modern computer technology. The equipment stays faithful in giving students access to its operation, thus allowing creativity to evolve. There is no real substitute for hands-on experience of,for example engines & gas turbines and to see basic principles in operation. Student engineers will graduate & eventually design their products with computers. Hence it is essential that there is early practical understanding of all engineering areas which will confront them throughout their career. The subject areas we specialise in are Thermodynamics including Heat Transfer, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Steam Engineering, Automotive Technology, Fluid Mechanics, Process Control &Instrumentation, Theory of Machines & Applied Mechanics, plus a newly launched Renewable Energy Range- covering Wind, Wave, Tidal and Solar Energy studies. In addition we also specialise in educational and research equipment for Marine Hydrodynamics, Naval Architecture and Maritime Studies. In addition to supplying individual items of equipment in these subject areas, Cussons also undertake complete turnkey projects for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of entire laboratories, specialising in those for steam and automotive engineering. Engines are mounted on test beds for a wide variety of reasons, in particular for students use in engine investigation, academic and vocational training as well as research projects. Cussons offers a most comprehensive range of engine test beds specifically designed for student investigations with any level of control from manual to comprehensive computer systems. Instrumentation is available either with supplied test beds or stand-alone and includes air flow, fuel flow, temperature measurement, torque, speed, emissions measurement etc. Through extensive experience with the automotive industry Cussons has a full understanding of requirements in education and has completed several hundred installations world-wide from the simplest test bed to major engine test facilities on a turnkey basis. Kempf and Remmers commanded universal recognition for excellence in the design and manufacture of a wide range of specialised force measurement instrumentation and test facilities systems for the marine hydrodynamic research sector. These facilities are principally employed in the evaluation of hull designs, propulsion systems and sea-keeping characteristics of a wide range of surface and sub-surface vessels and other marine structures. Combining the skills and experience of Cussons Technology in design, manufacture, installation and operation of projects with the Kempf and Remmers business, created the world s most formidable force to serve the Marine Hydrodynamic research establishments. The Equipment is designed to be robust for student use, and consistent in its results and accuracy as many of the components are inherited from the Kempf & Remmers Range. The Purpose is to allow the lecturer demonstrations to be carried out with ease, and for the students to undertake a range of experiments with repeatable results and reasonable accuracy. The Products are design to be cost effective and complementary. Each product can be sold as individual product range, but when supplied within a complete facility some savings can be achieved by the use of a common data acquisition system.
